Anyone know why my laptop processor is performing below its clock speed and what I might do to fix it?

Nope. This is my work laptop. I want to make sure I didn't fuck it up somehow before I take it to my IT guys. I haven't really put anything on it besides firefox and trillian and shit like that.

Make sure you delete your porn before going to the IT guys happy:

alot of laptops have speed step technology. where if you dont have it plugged in it will run at a slower speed to make the battery last longer. sometimes it even runs when plugged in.

Nah, it's plugged in and I've poured through the power options tab and haven't found that option. I know it used to recognize 3.06 GHz.

You'll need to go into the BIOS and disable the Intel "SpeedStep" option. On my work HP laptop it's under "Advanced" and then "Device Options" and then "disabled". You'll lose battery time since the proc will be running at full speed all the time. You may want to see if there's an option to have the proc fan run at full speed all the time as well. That option on my laptop is in the same location as above but called "Fan Always on while on AC power".

To get into the BIOS you'll need to hit a key at startup, look for the prompt during the boot sequence, it's usually on the Dell splash screen at the very beginning. I have some dell workstations and servers and it's F2 to enter the BIOS on those but it may be different on your laptop.

Amd will be back up on the top since Intel is way to expensive. But Anyways amd will wipe that score soon.
