hey i just re did my freinds dads pc. and two things i cant figure out. 1 there is no sound what so ever. i checked the sound options thing in control panel and it says there is no audio device or something. but i did install the sound driver.2 i installed a warzed copy of xp pro and it keeps poping up saying that it is stolen more or less and asks if he wants to genuine it, so i was wondering if there was a way to bypass that shit. thanks in advance

Mr_Gl@ss 08-01-2006 12:04 PM

do you know if the sound card is on the motherboard or an add-on (PCI card)? if it’s an add-on you may need to enable it in the BIOS, probably under a heading like "Integrated peripherals" etc. Don't know about the other issue

oh, and lunch is delicious today:

AC ATI Silencer 4 for my x800 Pro.

Get this, before when I ran ATI Tool for OC I was getting 96C max core temp. Guess what it is with this bad boy?

A cool 56C. 40C difference! That is incredible.

Getting some decent OC numbers too. Default is 475/450 and I will be able to OC to around 535/560. Will have to run 3d mark to see the diff.

I will be doing some wire management soon also when my sleeving gets here, so it's a little bit of a mess in there, but i've definetly seen worse.

Looking to sell a laptop in a bit and would like to totally wipe and clean out the HD, not just a simple reformat but where no info can be pulled from it.

Anyone have suggestions of any free programs that do this?

Thanks

Sniper101 08-02-2006 11:03 PM

i dont have any suggestions, but the best thing you can do is get a program that will format, write the drive til full then reformat. This rewriting is what will make thing next to impossible to retreive. the downside to this is...i havent seen a program like this in YEARS. atleast on that can operate under its own capacity.

Im looking to get another computer because my current has just seen better days. Its units are no longer top of the line and need a new list of computer parts to get :ie video card, motherboard, processor etc etc. Price range isnt that big of a concern but wanna be realistic. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If it was me and I was buying right now, I'd go with AMD. I know Gerv will tell us that Core 2 Duo kicks AMD's booty which is true however till the price gouging (180.00 processor cost 260.00) dies down I'd look at AMD. More than likely you'll see an improvement over what you have either way you go (AMD or Intel). So whit that said:

SLI Capable
Processor: AMD X2 3800 (skt AM2)
Motherboard Nvidia: Asus M2N-SLI Delux (Nvidia 570 SLI chipset)
Video Card: Nvidia 7600 GT
DDR2 800 RAM (Corsair, Mushkin, Patriot, G-Skill, OCZ)

Crossfire Capable
Processor: AMD X2 3800 (skt 939)
Motherboard ATI: Asus A8R32-MVP Delux (ATI XPRESS 3200 chipset)
Video Card: ATI x1800GTO
DDR 500 RAM (Corsair, Mushkin, Patriot, G-Skill, OCZ)

Both of these will need a newer power supply. If you're going cheap then look at the FSP supplies([url:a2d2b]http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817104954[/url:a2d2b]). If you can spend some cash then look at the PC Power and Cooling supplies ([url:a2d2b]http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?Submit=ENE&N=2010320058+50009830&S ubcategory=58&description=&srchInDesc=&minPrice=&m axPrice=[/url:a2d2b]). The Silverstone SST-ST56ZF ([url:a2d2b]http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817163111[/url:a2d2b]) is great at the moderate price range

With Conroe out and widely available on Monday you would have to be a complete fool to go with AMD at this time. The prices are not gouged at some places, some places they are. Just wait a few weeks and the prices will be normal.
