Hey i'm with ya out there in the snow man! -20C over this weekend, not quite as bad as -30C, but still pretty cold. We were lucky though, we got to sleep inside in barracks because this was a range exercise, not a winter extercise. OUr winter ex last month is was only -5C so I guess we got lucky.
Exercise HEAVY METAL 18-20 February 2005 An annual training event for The Calgary Highlanders is Exercise HEAVY METAL, held in Wainwright. The training is geared towards live firing of the support weapons found in an infantry company, as time and ammunition permit. In past years, this exercise has included weapons ranging from the 60mm mortar to the .50 calibre machine gun. Other weapons with which the Highlanders live fired during HEAVY METAL 2005 included the C6 general purpose machine gun, the M203 grenade launcher, and the sub-calibre inserts for the 84mm SRAAW (Carl Gustav anti-armour weapon). The new Tactical Vest (TV) was worn in the field for the first time by the unit. Man, I love it in the army so far. Ive never been this fit, and Ive learnt soooo much just over the past four weeks. Cant wait till monday, when our NBC-training starts. Our Lt. told us that hes ordered new AK5's for us a few weeks ago. The new one is called AK5CF, and has only been used by the special ranger corps before, so we will be amongst the first non-spec's to get them.
Regular AK5: The AK5CF: One thing I like with the AK5CF is that the shoulderthingiebob is adjustable, so that people with shorter/longer arms will be more accurate. We havent gotten the new guns yet, but it wont be too long I hope. |
cool, so every company in your army get outfitted different?
|
Yeah, all depends on what we do. Im in baseprotection/guarding, so I will be wearing a full bodyarmor, radio, baton, handcuffs, that lovely gun in my previous post and I have the right to stop even the Supreme Commander, heck even the king, if they fail to show proper identification. The Marines gets MG's (FN Minimi) eguipped with aimdot "scopes", boobytraps, the AK5 (not sure which version) and so on. The AK5 comes in 5 different versions I think, all being used by different parts of the army. So I guess you could say that we are a very versataile military force.
