I'll become a man when I'll buy myself some computer parts and put it together all with my own time and money. beer:

Getting a car [no matter whose money it is being spent] is like passing a grade. Not graduating. oOo:

Some day im sure youll have a job and buy that car. Then youll better understand what im trying to say here. It wont be your fist car but the feeling will be the same.

I bought my own computer setup for all up around $3,000 (USD $1800) - Probably the most expensive thing I've bought with my own cash. It felt pretty good I guess.
Cars aren't as big a deal to me as they seem to be to you, I prefered purchasing other things with my hard earned cash. (I HAVE worked 3 different full-time jobs in my life - I do know what hard work is)
It didn't matter to me much if I got a car or not, hell I didn't even ask for one....But I got given one as a gesture of thanks from my parents for helping them survive. (NOT minor things like taking out trash etc - Try cooking/cleaning/washing, organising tradesmen, even paying bills occasionally). I never got paid for any of that, but the car was a gift of appreciation for the help I gave them.

I probably will get that feeling If I ever buy my own car, but I'm pretty damn sure I'd get that same feeling If I bought anything with my own money, not restricted to a car.
I don't think you realise how much cars don't matter to some people and how much it ISN'T a big deal getting your first car to some. Not all guys look at cars like that. Too me they're just another expensive thing that I have to fork out money for, just like anything else.

My point is, I'm not missing out on any "feeling" or on reaching my "manhood" because I got a car given to me.

alot of it has to do with cultural differences as well. When I was in Denmark, they couldn't believe that my family owned 4 vehicles. It's a huge part of our lives in America compared to other places I guess.

Maybe, I do know guys that are into their cars, their first car was probably a big deal to them, too - Car culture is pretty damn huge down here as well....

I'm just saying not everyone is into their cars so it's not very fair to judge people on their entire character based on whether or not they personally paid (with mondey earned from a job) for their first car or not - Infact, it's absurd....Not everyone treats their first vehicle as this special life milestone.

I can imagine it would....I'd get fed up with human-cyborg hybrids telling me how to live my life.

First car was a Nissan 240SX, got it for $1,200 i liked it alot, but i blew the head gasket and sold it. RWD was fun, infact doing donuts in a parking lot in the snow is what killed it.

You keep saying im judging you. I havent said anything remotely like that. I only intended this thread to talk about peoples first cars. Thought it might entertaining and it was. I enjoyed seeing some of the first cars guys have owned.

If you look at a car as something you have to piss away money on then i see why you feel the way you do. Most guys cant wait for time they can own thier own ride. It was that way for me. When i finally was able to buy the car i really wanted ( 69 vette) i treated that car like it was made of gold. Its a wonder i didnt rub off the paint with all the wax i put on that thing. I put just about every penny i made in that car.

You say you spent your money on a computer. When i bought the vette i dont have that option. Al gore hadnt invented the internet yet. biggrin:
