I got COD2.
I get about 15-30FPS.
This is what I currently have:
- 2.6GHz
- 512MB RAM
- nVidia GeForce FX5200 128MB (~$40)

I have $136 to spend (anyone want to donate a bit more biggrin: )

I am looking at possibly getting this card:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814121197

How good is it? - And what kind of FPS do you think I can get?

Just go into your graphic options and change render method preference from auto to DirectX7, then crank your gfx options up a bit. 50-100 fps more with no real loss in looks 4tw

With only $130 it's not even worth it to upgrade. Save up $200 then come back.

Anyway, I've tried that, I have my settings on the very lowest and still not much. An example of how bad my card is... I get an unstable FPS of 70 to 125 on CoD with lowest settings; can't run BF42; unstable FPS of 40 - 90 on MOHAA with lowest settings.

Not at all, it just disables the newer effects.

Far shittier in some cases. (like HL2 and other shader heavy games)

I dont notice ANY difference by going to dx7 and upping everything else to the max from dx9 except the lack of fps rape

so the family computer i have is shiz. Specs: Amd Athlon XP 2700+
2.16 gHz,
512RAM.

Should i just buy myself a new computer? I mean, im a Junior in highschool. It would make sense, but I dont know shit about anything. I just want to be able to play the games i have, MOHAA, CS:S, COD.

you should be able to play those games on that PC depending on the graphics card. I wouldnt recommend buying a new PC but maybe uprading the graphics card (assuming this one is crap) and adding another 512mb.

Character detail is a lot lower in dx7 mode, no bumpmapping or anything on the textures etc.

im honestly too busy trying to shoot people and not die, to notice if that blade of grass is bumpmapped or if the crack in the concrete is AA'd
