Because Activision bought the rights to the mod. Check out the boxed version of DoD.

geRV 11-24-2004 01:00 PM

Yah im looking at a box pic online now, first ive heard of activision having anything to do with it.

Akuma 11-24-2004 01:05 PM

DoD:S will probably be released in a boxed version(where Activision makes lots of profit) and a Steam version(not so much profit....) like with HL2.

I just hope Activition won't be a bitch about it like VU was.

geRV 11-24-2004 01:56 PM

Hl2 style maps on the doom 3 engine.

*Possible Spoiler*

You know the ant-lion/coast part where you park your buggy up and raid that small house, do you have to just run over the following beach towards that ship? seems like suicide.... hake:

Just use the buggy and the nitrous turbo's to get over jumps etc.

Damnit ive jus remembered i have to get up at 6am 2moro, god damn it, 2moro will be hell for me... *jumps off waterfall into a pool of naked ladies*

geRV 11-24-2004 04:40 PM

Ya can just ram through that fence with zee buggy, or blow the fuck out of it with the shotgun.

Akuma 11-24-2004 04:41 PM

There is a space to get around the forcefield. Then just figure out how to disable it.

****SPOILERS INSIDE****

http://www.steampowered.com/forums/show ... did=178246

I read this whole thred out of bordem. There are a lot of cool theories about gman, the combine, etc. Its a good read for all your conspiracty theorists. The coolest conspiracy was making a opposing force 2.

biggrin:

KTOG 11-24-2004 06:44 PM

Also ... did we fight any of these monsters in the game

SoLiDUS 11-24-2004 07:11 PM

No.

geRV 11-24-2004 07:19 PM

The big frog looking things a kind of tank that they never put in, looked pretty good. Probably get that in part 3.

strvs 11-24-2004 08:03 PM

Well it seems the stuttering fix did not work.

Fuck, i was looking forward to playing hl2 with no stutters. I've actually held off from playing it until this patch came out. shit.

guarnere 11-24-2004 08:16 PM

Try messing with your audio settings...mine stuttered when I put it on "4 Speakers" then when I put 2...it worked better...

Akuma 11-25-2004 09:49 AM

You gotta be fucking kidding me. Doom 3 was horrible.

HL2 is the greatest FPS ever made.

Akuma 11-25-2004 10:33 AM

I think there is a fence blocking your path or something. Climb up the ladder and move along the path until you are on the other side of the barrier, then break the boards and fall.

I don't remember exactly, but I think that's what you had to do.

11-25-2004 10:38 AM

k thx, cuz i climbed up on the ladder and it just was a bunch of planks circling that thing.

ninty 11-25-2004 11:08 AM

yah go all the way to the end of the planks on the far side and jump down.

mr.miyagi 11-25-2004 12:46 PM

Valve has just released a new Steam update to address the 'stuttering issue' that some people have been experiencing when playing Half-Life 2. Here's the word on the update:

The changes in this release are directed at reducing the problem some users are experiencing with sound stuttering. The sound stuttering is not indicative of a sound problem, sound stuttering is only a symptom of texture thrashing on your video card or AGP memory. For information on how to reduce texture thrashing visit this link on our support site:

http://steampowered.custhelp.com/cgi-bi ... _faqid=280

This update will fix sound stuttering that users were experiencing that would last for longer than a few seconds during normal gameplay. This update will also eliminate this same behavior following a quicksave or autosave. There will still be a short pause while the autosave happens, but not the more drawn out stuttering behavior. We are still investigating another performance problem on some hardware, which will manifest where the game is getting into a state where performance drops to less than 5 fps and does not recover or crashes. Next week we will be releasing the Source SDK, along with a surprise for the community.

geRV 11-25-2004 12:47 PM

The "suprise" is rumoured to be a co-op mode or halflife deathmatch. Either one would be fun.

happy: happy: happy:

11-25-2004 01:37 PM

VALVe really outdid themselves on this game, really cool to see how they are addressing alot of the issues presented.

the surprise is probably HL2DM, which would be sweet.

Akuma 11-25-2004 01:39 PM

DM and Coop is already out. There is a command to enable it. I don't remember where I found it though. They are probably just enabling it by default.

Here is the coop stuff: http://www2.sogamed.com/?s=communitynew ... ws_id=1977

geRV 11-25-2004 01:45 PM

Its possible to use that "mudskipper" airboat instead of the buggy in most of the driving missions, "impulse 83" spawns it, after sv_cheats 1 obviously. Actually better to use than the buggy seeing as it can't be flipped over. Some missions will need you to spawn a buggy to proceed, like that one you shoot down the gunship, you have to spawn a buggy and get into it for that guy to open the gate (impulse 82).

its buggy as hell. valve might release it nice and pretty for us, with little crashing problems (hopefully).
