TO enable console without having to hit ctrl alt and tilde, make ashortcut to doom3.exe and put this at the end of the command line

+seta com_allowConsole "1"

Fraps :)

Have to run it windowed though, i try opening it full screen and the game bombs out. Also it limits you to 30fps so gameplay can be a little sluggish.
