Military terms of enlistment. . .

I've always been curious. In your respective countries, what are the terms of an enlistment and how long is basic training?

In the U.S. :

Army : 9 weeks (4 year enlistment)

Marines : 16 weeks (4 year enlistment)

Navy : 4-6 weeks (4 year enlistment)

Air Force : 6 weeks (4 year enlistment)

Well, in the US Army its always 9 weeks, and you can go 2-6 years active duty. Im not sure about the reserves.

kinda off topic, but this kinda reminded me of something i just saw, I was looking at the USNA physical test to be accepted and it was a lot lower than i had thought:

40 Pushups in 2 minutes
65 situps in 2 minutes
1.5 miles in less than 10:30

i thought the requirements were much harder than that, but oh well...

Actually the Marine Corp bootcamp is 13 weeks training (12 weeks of ACTUAL training forming/ processing doesnt count as a week)

40 pushups = easy
65 situps = easy, but it hurts your back after 40
1.5 miles = Incredibly easy, I was doing 8 minute miles when I was 7.

yeah i know, i was like, crap, i could get in USNA easy, but then my dad said that you have to run 6 minute miles to pass once you get in and i don't think i have ever run a mile faster than 7 minutes

Those are the most popular Airborne divisions. For comparison, look at the sorry Marines and their M16A3's biggrin:

I know when we had some German exchange students for their jazz band come over to our school, they said that they were required to enlist and serve in their armed forces for a couple years i think.
