Day of Defeat for retail

Anybody buying it? or can you d/l it bootleg and play online?

pest 04-07-2003 01:19 PM

You can download and play online for free without being illegal. You just need a valid copy of halflife or retail counterstrike. They can be found for $10-15.

Ill sell you mine for 10, hehe

Yeah, what about the ones from the store, like CS and Opposing Forces, did you need HL to run those?

Sorry, but spending an extra 10 bucks for a MOD that itself ISNT modded when you can spend 20 bucks for HALF LIFE and get COUNTLESS mods for free - refuckingtarded. DOD is retailing for 30 bucks. 30 bucks for a fucking MOD. Gimme a break - the only reason to buy this is if for some insane reason you HATE halflife and the fact that DOD is connected in anyway to the engine.

CS retail came with its own HL compatible key. Opposing forces did not. I think (correct me if I am wrong) that opposing forces was an expansion and required half life while counterstike retail was a HL mod but considered a full halflife equivalent.

Is DOD worth the $30 though? God knows SH wasn't.

No, if you have HL or CS, DoD is free.

I also thought Blue Shift was standalone, but I'm not sure.

Agreed.

Well I don't have Half-Life and the only reason I'd want DOD is because it's WWII related. Is it better than MOH MP?

A LOT better.

Chronic Diarrhea 04-08-2003 10:02 AM

In what ways? I've heard it feels more like war.

Relies more on team work, weapons are more realistic. Thers no lean strafing about maps. Plus you get deployable machineguns, prone position, visual commands, ability to fling enemy grenades back at them.

Just a lot more to it than mohaa.

Sure the graphics may not be the best in the world but the main reason for that is so its accessable to people on like 500mhz pc's and the rest of the "low end" users.

This is the quote from an article on IGN:

Day of Defeat retail will not be an entirely new game, but it will be improved and somewhat redesigned to be a worthwhile purchase at retail. Expect new content across the board, serious refinements and improved visuals.

The real question is - will these improvements be available in the free version too?

The screenshots look very nice. Definately a step up from DoD.
