Britain's national flag - the union jack - has been given the makeover treatment, in the hope of reflecting a more modern society.

A campaign is being launched to modernise the red, white and blue flag by adding a touch of black to reflect multicultural Britain in the 21st Century.

The proposed new flag (see above) is the work of Nigel Turner, an enthusiastic fan of the UK's transformation into a multiracial society over the past 50 years.

I'm not a racist but this is ridiculous, when immigration starts to change your society so that people build temples and stuff I can handle that, but changing the flag, WTF!!!???

They wanted to change the Canadian National Anthem because it had the word God in it and not everyone believes in God.

This stuff has been around for a long time. Why can't people just shut up and leave it alone. These things are the roots of our countries and a reflection of the way things were in the past. Don't try to change them.

The idea is fine in principle but the design is all wrong. As far as I can see the blue and red people of this country as still massively over represented. Perhaps we could use a system of proportional representation and update the flag at each census.


Maybe a nice multi colored pie chart on neutral colored banner should be the next flag. oOo:

Ha ha, this is so stupid! Who wants a multi cutural society? They do not work, its better to have one cultural society, not one rcae society, but one culture. Any race can adopt another culture, and they should if they live in a certain country.

Why not? Because it's one of the most ridiculous ways to force a multicultural environment. A flag is a symbol of a country. Has been for ages, in most cases.

It will not happen. It should not even be in the news as if it were an option to replace the original flag.

Yeah, like, the German flag (black, red, yellow) is totally wrong. It should be changed. Most Germans are offended by it. Since most Germans are white. Not Afro-German, Indian, Chinese.

Can you even begin to contemplate the effects of someone standing up and declaring a black Stars and Stripes? And having some politicians actually taking it seriously?

If there's one thing that I'm proud of about my country it's the flag, IMHO it's the prettiest flag in the world and if that changes the very idea of Britain is destroyed, this is like sacrilege.

It looks like crap like that. To be honest, I always thought the pattern of the UK flag was awesome, but that totally killed it.
