Upgrading isn't the best idea.

A fresh install is highly recommended otherwise things might screw up later on

I just upgraded to XP, the only problem I had was that I had to reinstall a few things, but not MOHAA.

Oh that and my Adaptec CD Creator said launching it would make "Windows unstable" so I can't use that anymore because it's not compatible with XP, and I'm too lazy to get a new version.

But yeah, the upgrade went well for me, but you have a different machine so I'm not sure about what will happen after you upgrade

Why don't you get the latest patch for CD Creator that is compatible w/ XP?

And Scrot, make sure you have some decent system specs because XP is a hog.

Especially if you are coming from 98. Win 98 does bad things to a computer and needs a fresh install periodically.

BOARD: ASUS A7N 8X - DELUXE
PROCESSOR: AMD Athlon XP 2600+
MEMORY: 512 MB DDR 2700 RAM (one piece, Crucial preferred, but Kingston is OK)
CASE: Antec Mid Tower Case w/ 300W Power Supply

I have a Celeron 1.1GHz with 256MB of PC-133 RAM and XP runs fine.

I don't know about XP but some of my older games didn't work with 2000

(like Wing Commander Prophecy which is old (1998), but decent by today's standards)

Bazooka_Joe 07-23-2003 09:37 AM

You might have some problems with DOS-based games, but most of todays games, even 1 - 2 years old, will work fine. If Half-Life will work on XP, which it does, then most games will work on XP.

Just be sure you have AT LEAST 64MB of system memory, and a 300mhz processor, preferably a PIII.

PS: Like Blood said, don't upgrade, totally reinstall the OS.

Sergeant_Scrotum 07-23-2003 09:43 AM

i dont have to format the drive do i?

Bazooka_Joe 07-23-2003 10:29 AM

To totally reinstall, yes.

Jotun 07-23-2003 10:59 AM

if your computer has 98, i would think it might be a bit too old for XP, even my 1.6 ghz has problems with xp, i just got a corrupted file which made me reinstall xp and reformat my drive, wiped the whole drive out.
