man this sucks
ok, so i got my upgrade, bring it home, set it all up. put xp in. then run a test to find out that my athalon 2600 is running at fucking 1.24ghz! so now i have to drag it out to the store again which is a 45 min drive & i cant do it till next wensday at the earlyest. oh & i have a fucking cold too cry:
|
That sucks. What do you think the problem is? Or do the store know and will fix it/swap it for ya?
|
Where are getting the 1.24 reading from? BIOS? CPU ID?
I dont think your cpu is your problem. This sounds familiar, but I cant place it. Is your motherboard old? You might want to try and research this at some more technical sites. Try virtual hideout or overclockers cafe. Their forums are good sources of info. |
they better fucking fix it, i paid for a athalon 2600 which should run at 2.2 ghz+ not some wimpy 1.2! i paid 600$ for the upgrade im not just gonna shrug it off. they are real nice though, im gonna call em tomorow & see if they can put a new one in. im thinking its a faulty athalon.

Just modify the clock speed and multiplier in the BIOS man...

brand new 512 MB DDR 3200 RAM brand new Tower Case w/ 350W Power Supply iv run a ton of programs to check the performace & everyone is giving me 1.2ghz speed. |
Like sloi said - can you bump up the clock speeds in BIOS?
Don't sweat it too much, if the cpu is trashed, they will replace it . |
Dude, read your mobo manual. You prolly screwed up the settings in BIOS. Look into it before you embarrass yourself at the store.
|
stop complaining
|
The clock speed is most likely not a setting in the bios, but rather a jumper.
Find the 100/133 jumper on your mobo (read the manual) and set it to 133. |
it's in the bios
|
im computer stupid. i have no idea what your talking about.

yup thats your problem your system clock is only set at 100..it should be set to 133. Thats all they will do when you take it in...It would be easy to change either in bios or a jumper..but you sound computer illterate so the best thing to do would be to tell them the system clock is wrong and let them fix it..you might do some damage to your system if you try to mess with it

Find the 100/133 jumper on your mobo (read the manual) and set it to 133.[/quote:6f20e] This is exactly the solution you need (as is the last post). When I bought my Athlon Xp 2000+ 1.67Mhz my jumper setting was 100 - This limited my CPU to 1.4 Ghz Athlon. As soon as I flicked the switch to 133, bam, 1.67 Athlon 2000+ enabled. The jumper switch is a little plastic switch on your mother board. It should be located somewhere near the battery, or memory slots. Try looking in the motherboard manual for bus jumper settings. It's there. Either that or set it in the software BIOS, but I don't know much about that beyond what you've already been told. Do not take/send your PC back or for repair, they may charge you for such a mundane task. If you're totally stumped give their tech dept a call and ask them to walk you through the problem. |
