Battlefield 2 @ E3
Just checked the 3 small videos they have posted on this site and god dayum I'm impressed. Each vid is like 4-8mb (they make one whole) and some of the action in the video is going to make for some pretty stunning gameplay...
The 1st vid shows the interface and co-operation the whole team has with the 'commander' which is explained here 8-) “When we played BF1942 we noticed that the community, and even our own team members, played in a million different ways. We had lone-wolves, sneaky engineers and good-hearted medics, among others. People ran around and minded their own business most of the time and it was rare to see them cooperate. But as time went on, people naturally began working together because they discovered that it was more effective, having an engineer and a medic with a group of assault guys made more sense than just going after someone by yourself. If you’ve ever experienced a game where the entire team is acting like one, synchronized mind, it’s a thing of beauty. With the Commander we go one step further and introduced this feature to coordinate all these teams (we refer to them as squads in BF2) so that they work for a common goal. To encourage this we let him/her have access to more information and tools than any other player in the team. With this information and tools, the main goal will be to lead his/her team to victory since the commander’s personal score is totally dependent on how he/she led the team.” Yadda yadda yadda Hopefully this link will work for everyone http://www.downloads.jolt.co.uk/index.php |

how can you possibly force people to work as a team on pub servers ?

Removing individual scores. Creating the "commander" mode so that a few people are dispensing ammo, health, directions. Removing overhead map. Leaving "directions" up to the commander (this would work on a non-static map design that changed everytime its played (ala SOF2). Many ideas but its easier to leave that up to the mod-community than actually implement it themselves. Cest la vie. |

Star Wars Battlefront is 100000000000000000 times better

Also, Tribes 3 wipes the floor with that piece of shit.

Teamwork...that must be the running joke of the battlefield series and its mods as well.
The above is something that simply does not exist in pub servers so i dont see why they try forcing to make people do it, any "teamwork" is purely accidental and if a guy helps you out of a tight spot you can be 100% sure that his ratio was his only reason for doing so. Battlefield 1942 pretty much started off the whole waiting around for vehicles bit and dc improved on it. Tanks for example with the exception of a couple of maps may as well be in dc for ornamental purposes, go outside your base with a tank and you can rest assured either an a-10 thunderbolt\su10 or an apache\hind is gonna rain down some ownage on you inside of a few minutes. I just don't see why tanks havn't been replaced with even more helo's or jets because currently tanks are as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike and will continue to remain that way. Battlefield 2...im sure it'll be more of the same. It'll be pimped as "requiring teamwork" but as always it'll be people standing about an area scratching their asses untill a plane\helo respawns. This pic was never more true. |
Planes are still gonna pwn everything to hell...
|
To avoid the vehicle waiting i have thought they should make it so when u join a game the first class you choose is not the soldier type but vehicle type. That way if you choose to be a tank driver due to limited amounts of pilot slots, there would be no point of waiting for aircraft to spawn because you would not be able to use one.
What im thinking is 1-special tank class- Only people assigned as tank drivers can use them. 2-light armor class- jeeps, apcs- anybody can use. 3-Pilot class- only pilot class can use them. And as for the planes pwning everything, it could be avoided if people didnt use planes to attack but to defend the tanks, that way everything works out. |
