computer networking question
i just bought a new computer to take with me up to the citadel, i got it today and hooked it up in my room. i dont have internet acess with it yet...and i was wondering if they sell wireless routers that would allow me to share my cable connection with the computer in my computer room so i don't have to have a wire running across the house or pay for another box. if such a thing exists can someone please explain how much they generally cost and what exactly i need to buy.

is this what id need to buy to do what i wanna do? |
get a linksys wireless router. not too expensive
http://www.linksys.com/products/product ... 5&prid=544 thats a nice one, i guess. it all depends, do you need a really fast speed? like, really fast? cuz there are 3 types of wireless connections, A, B, and G G is the fastest and backwards compatible with both A and G B is what I have, it works fine with everything i need to do, download movies, music, surf the web, AIM, all that, i'd recommend B. I have no clue what A is, i think its just like B, just not compatible with B. So surf the linksys site, they have a variety of wireless routers. pick what you want. |
If you only have two computers, don't even bother with a Router.
All you need is a network card in both computers and a good antenna hooked up, and you're good to go. That's how I'm set up....I share DSL with the computer in the main house (I'm in an outhouse type thing).... Network cards were 65$ NZD each, antennas 20$ NZD each.... |

edit: i also want everything to plug into the usb or something so i don't have to install any hardware...i probably should swing by bestbuy, circuit city, or comp usa. |

wireless medium to your CITADEL computer ? Good luck. If they're in the same area (within 50 feet of each other), a basic Linksys Wireless router will suffice. |
