There are many stations there. UK, America, France, Chile, Germany, Russia all have bases there. The reason no one has colonized it is because you can really grow anything on ice like wheat or fruits, the only houses you can build would be igloos because there are no trees. So you would have to import everything which would be expensive. And you'd have to get people to live there. I guess you could start out with 2 people and make a lot of babies and then in like 1000 years you'll have you're own fully operational country dependant on other countries for survival. So I guess you could set up the "Mr. Maple" flag down there, but I would be willing to bet you'd have the yanks and ruskies after you.
