i'm just wondering coz on most default first person shooters the controls are usually on the hardest set-up to use. the W,A,D,S,etc keys to move around are stupid. just use the directional keys under the END key for moving around and use right shift to jump and right control to crouch with enter being activate/open. i still don't understand why people use the hardest configuration!

I use always wsad, gives me more control over other keys who a near. And i played with those combinations for almost every shooter, so y change :P

Assuming you use your right hand to look with the mouse, it is more comfortable to place your left hand over "wasd" than over the numberpad, or the arrow keys, which are all the way over on the right side of the keyboard.

Its not that hard to move the keyboard to the left.......i use the same configs as mr. miyagi. Its easy...

I use the arrows to move,
"0" on the keypad to reload "End" key to crouch "Delete" to lean left "Page Down" to lean right "Shift" to use "right mouse" weapon secondary "Left Mouse" fire Press the wheel down to jump scroll the whell to change weapons ------------------ Not so Rude, RudeDog http://www.landi.net/rd.jpg [This message has been edited by rudedog (edited February 01, 2002).] |
I use to use the arrow keys, but its very hard on my wrist to use the arrows. Now I use WASD because of the fact that there are more keys neer it, and it is way more comfortable.
I like the default key config anyway, 'cause all fps's tend to use the same config.. http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/smile.gif ------------------ ~Blaze |
Used to use the arrow keys because there are two extra keys besides the "UP" arrow for weapons scrolling.
Not anymore, not after everybody and 2015 laughed at my settings http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/frown.gif http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/For...ML/000202.html Now I'm a WADS user http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/smile.gif |
Mines a little different. I have used this basic setup since I encountered it in the '96 game SkyNet (anyone remember that one?).
A=forward Z=backward LShift=strafe left X=strafe right S=Jump Q=reload (that's what I used in AQ2, werks for me) D=Drop wep Space=Crouch Heh, the letters A & X are totally worn off my black Sejin 101 keyboard. Most of the word Shift & part of the S are worn off as well. This keyboard has been through 2 years of UT (where I "dodged" ALOT), some AQ2, rtcw & now Mohaa.. My arrow keys, the keys above those, & my keypad as well as a few other keys, are all used for my voice binds. I forgot to mention an important one for me, my LCTRL key toggles Walk on & off. /me likes to be sneaky. http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/smile.gif ------------------ http://home.austin.rr.com/ottf/c0aX_red_tiltr_s.gif #~ridin'_the_wire~0 [This message has been edited by coax (edited February 01, 2002).] |

Like I say SkyNet used those & it couldnt be changed as I remember. But I just got used to it. I was playing mainly Duke3D at the time still using a Jstick for that, but when I got my arse whooped BAD in Quake one night one on one(I was still using the keyboard for it), I knew it was time to make the switch to key/mouse & that was all I knew.. Keys I forgot to mention were the "use" key, "Enter". I need to do something about that. Might make it my LALT key (hit it with thumb like i do the space/crouch). Taking my hand off the mouse kinda sux. I also got my screenshot key as F12, the good ole Quake/Q2 method. I will always have it like that. Any other key for SS just doesnt do it for me. Old habits die hard I guess. http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/smile.gif ------------------ http://home.austin.rr.com/ottf/c0aX_red_tiltr_s.gif #~ridin'_the_wire~0 |

i USE ARROW KEYS!!! http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/biggrin.gif well kind of, i mostly only use the up arrow key and i just look in the direction i want to go with the mouse arrows for movement <=strafe left >=strafe right /?=walk space=jump shift=duck and mouse 1 as primary fire mouse 2 as secondary and scroll thingy for weapon selection |
Arrow keys to move around, CTRL to crouch, KP_INS to reload gun, SHIFT and KP_END for leans, enter for use, delete to switch in grenade and End to switch weapons backward, page down to walk/run toggle. Mouse 1 shoot, mouse 2 alternative fire, mouse 3 jump http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/smile.gif

The arrow keys are to close together for me and I used to find my hand would cramp up after an hours use. I did use the arrow keys a long time back but it always felt wierd. The wads setup is far more comfortable for me and I find it's much easier to hotswap your weapons without having to scroll.
It's all a matter of what you are used to. ------------------ http://www.flightsimnetwork.com/dcfo...5903756c13.jpg It's our wits that make us men |
