If u were the president...

what would u do... The political standing thread got me thiking bout this. This is wat I would do.

-Oppose gay marriage bans, veto any ban that they pass.

-Stop spending tax dollars on finding cures to different diseases, and instead concentrate efforts on researching and implementing genetical enhancement, nanotechnology, and stem cells. In the long run this would end up curing, pretty much all diseases known to man.

-Cut the army and air force budgets by a bit, and divert that money to the navy, as I believe they are slightly more important from a tactical standpoint.

-Put money into researching hydrogen or water engines.

-Isolate America a bit more, stop being the head honcho, let other countries concetrate on international affairs for the time being and concerntrate on americas domestic problems.

-Set up a government newspaper, from which people could hear things straight from the source instead of a garbled and exagerated version from the media.

*Begin disclosing things to the public, things like IE, some basic facts about wat goes on in area 51.

-Fund, possibly set up an official and seperate core of the military devoted to space, exploration of it, and possibly space combat.

I could go on, but these are just some basic things id want to do. Feel free to share and/or comment. beer:

that sounds all nice and good on paper, but I think you have a naive idea of being president.

space combat? There's no one to worry about up in space. Star Wars won't happen for while yet.

Trunks 04-11-2005 06:57 PM

well, the reason y i posted that is, i didnt specify exactly when it is i would be president, it may be early now to think botu space combat, but in say 30 years it will be an issue, and i can almost guarrantee there will be a space arms race. Not to mention u cant be president till ur 35 so I am writing this from a +17 year bare minimum perspective. And space is teh new frontier. Whoever has control of earth air space, in teh future, will have control of quite a bit, thats for sure. Im not saying there will be massive fleets of batleships and laser gun-equiped fighters, but in case u werent aware, there are already certain divisions of the air force who are invlovled in this, I would just be taking the idea, forming a seperate core, and expannding on it.

hydrogen engines are a myth. people say when we run out of fossile fuels we'll have hydrogen cars. Unfortunatley, hydrogen is not something that can be found in the earth. You have to make it. How? With energy. Namley fossile fuels. And when you have to put more into making hydrogen than you get out of it, it doesn't make sense.

Trunks 04-11-2005 07:24 PM

interesting, didnt know that bit... Then I suppose water could be used... Electricity is possible also, altho cars would be slower, etc...

i don't know if using water would be the best thing either...unless it's sea water.

What? I'm sorry but thats incorrect. I'm guessing you found this out from this site [url:3691f]http://www.motherjones.com/news/outfront/2003/05/ma_375_01.html[/url:3691f].

[quote:3691f]Hydrogen is natrually occurring. It can also be manufactured by running an electrical current through wateror by micing natural gas with steam.[/quote:3691f]

Water = H2O / Two Hyrdogren Molecules and One Oxygen Molecule. However hyrdogren can be found in fossil fuels but not specifically and it's much more difficult to extract.

Also extracting from Fossile Fuels is idiotic in the first place, while it may prove to be cheaper it :

[quote:3691f]The problem is, extracting hydrogen from fossil fuels leaves behind carbon, which can escape into the air, fueling global warming.[/quote:3691f]

I'd post more but I'm busy with a paper. Google Hydrogen and read up on it. I find this kinda shit fascinating. oOo:

Edit: To Coleman
Why would water be a bad idea if not seawater? If you think were running out of water your mistaken. Plus seawater would cost more to purify and extract the hyrdrogen from.

first two things Id do is:
1 secure the borders
2 deport Richard Simmons

you got my vote happy:

If I ever became president of my own country:

- Incorporate dictatorship.

ninty 04-11-2005 08:47 PM

No, I didn't get it off that site. I saw it in a documentary about energy.

Hydrogen for the purpose of fueling your car is not naturally occuring. You can't gather up some water stick it in a car with a hydrogen engine and drive off. You have to refine wherever you're getting the hyrdogen from. This takes energy.

[quote:b523e]Hydrogen is not a form of energy. It is a form of energy storage. It takes more energy to make hydrogen than you actually get from hydrogen. Same with ethanol. It is a net energy loser. It takes more gasoline to create and fertilize the corn and convert it to alcohol than you get from burning it.[/quote:b523e]

http://www.vitalitymagazine.com/node/view/316

Bottom line is if you can't get out of hydrogen as much as you put in, you're in trouble.

What Ninty is saying is that Pure Hydrogen is not found on Earth. Hydrogen mixed with other things is, but you have to use something to extract it, which will require energy. Where do you think the electricity is generated to manufacture the hydrogen is coming from?

On topic: I'd work on making America itself more secure and begining setting up the infrastructure to switch to alternative fuels (when a practical one is available at least)

Jin-Roh 04-11-2005 08:54 PM

Possible source for powering our machines: the sun. However, it is extremely little. Also, using anti-matter. http://livefromcern.web.cern.ch/livefro ... day00.html

Extremely inefficient, though. I am sure we'll find a way to get the energy out more efficiently. oOo:

Coleman 04-11-2005 08:54 PM

it's those damn Chinese and East Indians that are hogging up all of the oil. Let's nuke 'em and solve our oil troubles!

If you veto any bans, then you would piss off the general public--remember, gays are a minority.

And you couldnt cut the budgets. Thats what Clinton did-cut the budget then used the money to develop weapons that are too technological to use--exactly why we are in our current situation in Iraq.

The government is currently funding space military stuff.
