Greek Life?
 

I was wondering if there's anyone else here that is in a fraternity or a sorority. I'm curious to see since I never pictured myself joining a fraternity when I went off to college, but here I am now. I recently became a initiated brother of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity a few months back and we recently received our charter on April 30th.

So how about it? What house is everyone else from?

whats so special about a fraternity?

I thought fraternities were for people with no self esteem who have to surround themselves with other "cool" people to fit in.

Well I consider all 30 of my brothers to be some of the most loyal and trustworthy people I have ever met in my entire life. I mean really, I think it goes for any fraternity/sorority in that everyone is there for you, no matter what the hell is happening. In addition, the networking across the country is insane. You can get a lot of things out of alumni if they're in the corporate world such as jobs, internships, scholarships, etc.

Just a side note, I think it's something like 80% of all corporate CEOs are greek. This coinsides to the fact that most fraternities try and build leadership ability in an individual so when they graduate from college, they're able to cope in any sort of situation.

Yeah, what I said: More opportunities.

Life-long friends as well ;)

Skull and Bones

Im on the Rugby team for my school. Thats the closest thing to a frat we have. The vermont state college system outlawed frats a long time ago. The rugby team is a fucking family, we protect our own no matter what. Not to mention we throw the best 'water' drinking parties ever.
OH ya, there is also a non school affialiated chapter of Kappa up here. More like Krappa, those fags.

Which one? To be honest not all fraternities are the same. There ARE those typical animal house fraternities but from my experience, not all of them are even remotely close to it.

And you care to explain why you believe fraternities are useless? On my campus, every single greek chapter/colony is involved in community service and philanthropic events to raise money for charities. How is that useless?

ok, well they bring together stereotypes and i'm sure you can think of other ways to get involved in the community than be involved in a frat. i dunno, its right for some people, for me it just seems like a waste of time.

Ahh we have AEPi on our campus as well. I have a bunch of friends in it actually :). But you're right, there are other ways to help out in a community, for me it is through my fraternity. Everyone has their own ways of helping if, if at all, and I can see where you're coming from. Fraternities are not for everyone and even though I've only been apart of my fraternity for not even a half year, I definately don't regret joining for a single second. I certainly don't think it's a waste of time, but it just seems you're taking all the sterotypical points on fraternities and greek life and beliving them when there's a completly different side to it.
