Routers, Ports, and Timed out servers

Hopefully someone can help me with this. My problem is with hosting a server from behind a cable router.
I've searched the posts and read the tutorials, but all they say is, basically, "Unblock your ports." Okay, done that, but it still doesn't work. I even put my main comp on a DMZ and that didn't work. So can someone please give, send, or point me in the direction of some detailed information of what I might do? Here's the sitrep:

I have three computers, call them A,B, and C, (A being the primary). They are all networked and have access to the net via the router. They can all play on gamespy, or an outside host. They can all play on a LAN game hosted by any of the computers. But this is it. Here's what I want to be able to do:

I would like to be able to have one of the computers host a reg internet game, or even just comp A. I would like said game to be available to the other computers, (B and C), as well as computers on the net. Is this possible? If not, I would still like to be able to host for outside computers.

Can someone please help?>
Oh, and P.S.:
Can anyone tell me how to run MOH successfully through ZoneAlarm? I have to turn it off to play online, even though MOH and Gamespy are given full access. (now feeling really lame).

Thanks again,

i cant host either.... server does not appear in gamespy and cannot be connected to by entering IP to join. also cannot be connect to by ServerQuery

details:
ADSL on a DLINK DSL-200
server has "gamespy 1" setting, max ping set at 999, first map always a retail map.
Kerio firewall with in/out all ports TCP+UDP permissions for MoH/Gamespy
as well as ICMP echo request, echo reply & time exceeded allowed (u r can ping0r me). Thats everything required for this server to run AFAIK.

server _is_ running and can connect with CK Autokick via my internal IP address but nobody can connect to my external IP address to join. easy answer would be that the modem runs NAT (which mixes up ports so MoH running on 12203 internally but this is not the same port as 12203 that the internet requests) but i cant find anything that says it does this.... and certainly no options in my modem config to map ports (link externalIP:12203 to internalIP:12203).

The best thing I can tell you is double check what ports you have opened and closed. You can find out which ones need to stay opened here:

Can you tell me how to open or forward ports? I running WinXP pro. I have disabled ICF in the properties of my dsl connection but still blocked.

Is your router set to DHCP or have you created static IPs for your computers on your network?

I haven't hosted a game in a while but I found out you have to have it on static IP addresses. So...turn off DHCP in your router, assign static IPs to your PCs (192.168.1.2, 192.168.1.3 etc) and forward port 12203 on the host computer. There may be some other ports to forward too - I remember part of Bull's posts in the Board Of Developers forum told them.

Re

I've assigned static ip's. How do I forward ports in WinXP pro?

nomar 08-29-2002 11:45 AM

You forward the ports in the advanced settings of your router. What router do you have?

I have the linksys and you go into the admin tool (web based) and click on the advanced tab and forward the ports.

It's not in WinXP but in the router that you forward the ports.

What router do you have?

You forward the ports in your router, not the OS. Check you router documentation for theinstructions. freak:

You're on your own now bro. I'd suggest a google search but doubt you'd be able to do it using ICS.

Ok I bought a router now,

Got a Linksys and have tried the settings found in serveral post here, So far I have gotten it up and running on gamespy. Problem being when I join through gamespy on second computer I get disconected after a few minutes of playing. everyone else in game is fine. Any suggestions?

Btw, I can join through lan game and plays fine.

Do I need to foward ports if i just want multiple comps on my network to access the same external server? Or can i just put something in the shortcut command or a config file to achieve this? I dont want to have my own server, i just want to be able to play with my brother on the same one out there in internet land. We both have a legal copy of the game. any help would be appreciated!

Nighthawk this should be no problem at all. Have you tried it before? I have had 2 clients on 2 pcs connect through my Linksys router to the same server with no problem. Forwarding ports is only for the PC that is hosting a game.

If you are not hosting a game, don't worry about it. I've had much better success when I assign static IPs to my 2 pcs than through DHCP though.
