Who has the crappiest computer?

OK in my poinion I probably have one of the worst comps among the guys in this forum. Maybe not THE worst, but it's pretty damn bad. I'm thinking whoever has the worst comp on this forum will receive a very cool "I have a POS computer" shirt made by me in the mail. Actually, I'm too lazy to do such a thing. Anyway, here are my specs:

AMD Athlon 1.1 GHz processor
16MB NVIDIA TNT-2 Vanta AGP vid card
256 megs of SDRAM (just upgraded today, WHOO!!)
20GB hard drive
cable internet connection
Windows ME OS

that's the main crap, now can you beat that for POS material?

ninty 10-09-2002 03:40 PM

Nope, wish I could...actually no I don't wish I could... eek:

Star85 10-09-2002 04:09 PM

How about the computer I used in June for MoH:
Intel 300Mhz
16MB Radeon
256 RAM
20GB Hard Drive
Windows 98
Cable

Lol, worst specs ever mad:

My new one though:
Intel 2.0Ghz
64MB GeForce4
512RAM
60GB Hard Drive
Windows XP
Cable

WooHoo happy:

Captain Bunny 10-09-2002 04:34 PM

I think im a strong contendor for this one:

pIII 450mhz
Integrated intel chipset graphics
SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio
128ram
15gb
56k modem

And will have this one until feb. next year.

Aside from the memory and video card, you're computer isnt THAT much crap. Unless you're editing videos and what not, 1.1 gig of CPU speed, should be enough. What you need to focus on now is a better vid card, 512 megs of memory, and another hard drive.

As far as HD's are concerned, you can get a 100gig HD for 100 bucks if you look for Buffer speeds of 2 megs to save 15-20 bucks. I got my ass a 100gig Western Digital for 80 dollars. And unless you are REALLY looking you arent gonna notice anykind of difference. I've had the computer running around in hoops looking for info and have yet to see a 75% change.

And if you have CABLE and AOL/DIRECT CONNECT look for ways of improving that Operating System (Although ME is pretty darn good).

I currently run:

AMD 1600 (runs at 1gig though, freezes up when I up the speed, might have to look into that - dunno much about changing speed in BIOS)
100gig Western Digital XP (replaced a 60gig that I used, abused, and mistreated for a year)
30gig Western Digital ME
640 megs SDRAM (I've yet to see a convincing argument for spending 40 dollars extra for DDR)
ASUS K75A motherboard
PACBELL DSL (900-1100 connection speed)

Are you Mad? Windows ME is the buggiest POS I have ever seen in my life! I always get .dll errors and what not. It could be worse though, I could still have Windows V. 3.1. biggrin: Yeah you're right, my computer isn't all that bad, mainly it's the video card that is the sore eye in the mix. Captain Bunny that is pretty bad. You sir just might be receiving your very own POS comp t-shirt in the mail soon!

Captain Bunny 10-09-2002 05:00 PM

Woohoo! ohh and just to add what a POS my pc is, its made by Tiny. hake:

10-09-2002 05:01 PM

You know for the time, I've had Windows ME on my system, I've only ever encountered ONE major cum-fuck-up with it, and it was caused by me. Yea I'm sure teh DLL errors will pop up for folks out the wazoo, but for me I've yet to experience that. It's XP that I've had alot of problems with -

At least if you get a hardware error problem on ME you can boot to the system and correct it, with XP once I've had a hardware error problem, that's it - system refuses to boot. Back to reformat. So, I've got a 60gig HD that can still be used, just not with XP. If ever there was a way to have more than 2 HD's on ones computer, that man/woman would be a godsend. I've heard of this raid business, but seems to damn fishy to me.

Slinky2397 10-09-2002 07:41 PM

Well, up until several months ago, I had a REALLY old Compaq (POFS) PC at my Mom's house.

Intel 233 MHz
64MB Ram
4 GB Hard drive (Gahaha, it held 2 games)
Some onboard sound crap
2D 4MB onboard graphics (mwah: )

Now it's just a kinda remake from my other computer which got upgraded

1.1 GHz AMD Athlon
256MB Ram
Some onboard sound crap
30GB Hard drive (Slow as hell)
32MB TnT2 Model 64, PCI

And it STILL runs as slow as my other one did, except this time, it plays games, only for a couple of minutes, then it goes to sleep. Oh well, I spend my gaming on:

1.7 GHz AMD Athlon XP 2100+
512MB Ram
30 GB Hard drive
SoundBlaster Live! 5.1
GeForce 2 MX400 64MB (Will be Gf4 Ti4200, 128MB in 11 days)

I don't know if that is the worst, but those are my computers.

Try playing anything with a 4MB 2D card that I never heard of it. It was like a 13908710923 model 2D piece of crap.

Ehh !! 1600(XP ??) running at 1Gb ?!?!?! THE FUCKING HORROR !!!!!

Make sure your Heatsink and fan are securely hooked on. I dont know about you, but I got a program bundled with my mobo that allowed some degree of overclocking in Windows, the program is called "Fuzzy Logic". This is specifically an MSI mobo application, but you never know, it may work for your ASUS mobo...but I wouldnt count on it. Also there should have been some documentation with your mobo, included should have been info on core clock speed, vcore speeds and the such. Understanding these is important when overclocking. I could tell you how to do it, but I'd need to be looking at my BIOS at the same time, it's been a while since I was actually in there, (someone may have told you already...havent read this thread fully) so my memory is kind of hazy. You could check out http://www.Tomshardware.com or ask some questions at http://www.guru3d.com. Both those places are full of information. Guru3d especially for overclocking.

BallisticWookie 10-10-2002 07:24 AM

ATM mine is as follows:

AMD 1600XP (1400 @ 1500)
MSI K7T266Pro 2 Motherboard
512Mb PC2100 DDR RAM (KingMax)
30Gb 7200RPM Maxtor HDD
ASUS 128Mb Geforce4 4400 Ti
SB Live! Digital 5.1
Cambridge Soundworks DTT2200 5.1 Speakers
40X CDROM
8X DVDROM
12X10X32 CDRW
D-Link 504 5 Port DSL Router
512/128 ADSL
17inch LG Studioworks 775N Monitor (And oh how I hate it !!)
Windows XP Pro

Hopefully will be getting some upgrades, if money permits in the near future:

AMD 2100XP or 2200XP
80Gb 7200RPM Seagate Barracuda HDD
SB Audigy

garasaki 10-10-2002 08:37 AM

To change the speed in the bios you need to go to advanced chipset features (I think) then frequency/voltage control (that I know for sure) then change the FSB to 133!! You'll be set then
