Trusted Server Lists

I currently have Norton Internet Security installed on my computer, and in order to play MOHAA online, I have to completely disable the firewall. While playing, I have been hacked. The only way I can keep the firewall enabled, and play online is by adding the dedicated server address to my list of trusted sites. However, I can't find any publicly available dedicated servers. Are there lists of IP addresses available that run as dedicated MOHAA servers?

Hacked???

I got news for you dude, you were not hacked while
playing on a medal of honor server. I have been active
on this board for 6 months and run our clan server and
have NEVER heard of a player being "hacked" just by playing
on a particular server. If you have a virus, you probably
got is via email or by installing some bunk software

To play any online game you MUST disable all anti-virus
software as all anti-virus software will automatically interpret
the game as an attempt at someone trying to breach your computer

Run a virus scan, then shut off all anti-virus before you
join a gaming server - you will be fine

Hacked??

Thanks for your comments. Here is how I can tell I was hacked. I have been playing mohaa alot lately. Sometimes 4 to 5 hours per day. I have to disable my firewall in order to play. Lately, I have been getting alot of password request e-mail notifications from various sites, the most popular being ebay. The password requests are coming from unknown IP addresses. How can all these password requests be generated if not by a hacker trying to get my private data? And the only way they can get my account info is by getting on my computer while the firewall is down. Right? or Am I wrong?

Thanks.

Miscguy 10-13-2002 11:36 AM

Hey Ball if he downs his firewall to play Mohaa it is possible that he could have been hacked for some reason or another.

You can add the TIC server (west Coast) San Fransisco at the moment, soon to be Seattle server to your non blocked IP's

64.62.139.44:12203

If you click the [TIC] in my signature you will link to our web site and can keep up to date on our server info. We have been having provider trouble and are fighting with xgameserver to get us a server that works well.

As for a list of IP's. I do not believe there is one in exsistance at the moment.

Miscguy 10-13-2002 11:41 AM

I delete any un requested mail without opening it. Most password request are bogus never give out any password. If you have change it now... go ... now... if you havnt then you should be fine.

Simply ask yourself, why would e-bay need my password... there supposed to be the ones i ask if i forget it. All internet service providers like e-bay will not loose your password.

(i know i used ISP but e-bay offers a service on the internet, and does not offer the internet access, so no flames)

Anytime you are live on the net without firewall protection you are at risk. I am sure you can run MOHAA without turning off your Norton. All you have to do is tell the Norton Firewall program what program you want to connect to the internet with (MOHAA). A friend of mine uses it and it works fine for playing the game. If you are trying to run a server, thats more difficult.

Password requests

Password change requests are common for all sites
Mostly just dumb asses doing this

Make sure that you change all your critical passwords
at lease once every 2 months, if you get a password
change request read the email as there may be a "DENY"
link embedded - Just dont click on the accept link - YUK

This is not a result of playing on any "bad" servers
but a result of standars internet related crap that
is pretty much unavoidable

I do the same thing. I was just proving to other guy why I thought I had been hacked. He seemed to think it was not possible.

Thanks for your help

I will try your clan server.

CyberSEAL 10-13-2002 02:48 PM

Well, I have thought about this before and I cannot see how they can 'crack' into your system through MOH. I have wondered before if viruses or trojans could be placed ony our computer somehow by downloading files from the server while in the game. I haven't played with the Norton firewall but if you're really concerned about this why don't you go download the FREE version of Zone Alarm from ZoneLabs.com.

I know from using it in the past that if you give a 'program' trusted permissions your computer will be safe while that program will be allowed to connect to the Internet to do its business.

ball.. he's saying that he's getting hacked because his firewall is off, WHEN HE GOES ON MOHAA, not that it's people on MOHAA hacking him... he just has shitty luck... oOo: ...he likes to keep his firewall on so he is asking for server's ip addresses so he can play on them while having his fire mad: wall on.... ok bye now

later

Neo Nazi Hitler 10-13-2002 03:00 PM

Visit Crow King's Forlorn Hope
66.151.108.178

that's the best server ever, practicly the only 1 i got to... ok later
cool:

Major Malfunction 10-13-2002 03:37 PM

I figured it out. What I have to do is add each IP address that I want to play on to my "trusted sites" list in Norton Internet Explorer. This works well if the server has a fixed IP address, but if it is static, then I have add in the new IP address each time. And if I get hacked again, I will have narrowed down the list of potential hacking IP addresses.

Thanks for all your help on this one!

funny, I always play with Norton auto-protect on and it doesn't do anything to the game.

If you initiate the connection from your computer. It should open only the ports needed for the request. IE MOH port 12203
You do not need to disable your firewall when playing. You may also try just opening port 12203. Just in case you have all outgoing ports blocked. This is so someone cant use your box as a zombie. They can however disable your firewall if they are able to get behind it in the first place.

Good luck

Captain_McCusker 10-14-2002 12:59 PM

Here's another suggestion for ya. If you run cable or DSL and don't have a static IP, try renewing your IP. Otherwise, give your ISP a call and ask them to do it for you. Perhaps with a diff. IP you may see this happen less.

But I agree with RD. You shouldn't need to disable your firewall when playing. Most firewalls will have some sort of config that allows you to specify what can use what ports (12203 and 12204 are default for MOH servers). I know in the case of ZoneAlarm, you can specify the apps that can connect outside your network.

Also consider monitoring your ports and connections. I do this from time to time with an app called Active Ports. Do a search at any shareware site and try it out. It shows you what connections are running at any given time.

Good luck. Also check my sig for a server IP. The more the merrier. :)

I hate to burst everyones bubble, but unless you are doing something "constructive", the chances of you getting hacked are slim. I have absolutly NO protection on my PC which is on 24/7. The ONLY prog I use is Antivirus2003. That's it! I have yet to get a virus, trojan, or anything on my port.

scotch 10-15-2002 07:04 AM

well i used to run norton internet security 2002 with mohaa without any trouble. then i installed the 2003 version and i was lagging like u would not belive so now i have to turn of auto protect when i play mohaa, but u should be able to play with the firwall on i do without any trouble try disabling AV auto protect when u play and u should notice a differance.

=[BANE]= 10-15-2002 07:13 AM

I put Norton SystemWorks 2002 on my PC. Norton A/V Autoprotect does not affect my internet connection in the least. What good would it be if you had to turn it off and on all the time?

Just my $0.02...

Miscguy 10-15-2002 09:05 AM

I just hide behind my router. Nothing gets through the damn thing. Not even things i want to. Frankly im amazed it alows pages to download cookies.

(Sarcasim pertaining to the router being to damn protective.)

scotch 10-15-2002 09:40 AM

no ,no no it dont affect my internet it affects my computer i,e system lag (and no i dont have a shitty computer and i know of a few ppl this has happened to).
