No this post isn't to bitch about those selfish bastrads. You know, who aren't content with their own skill level, and feel the need to cheat and ruin the game for others, so that they feel better about themselves. :) No, this post is a general question about the issue. Now that cheating has started to play a major factor in many MP games these day, is there anything that game compaines can do to stop hacks & cheats from being uploaded? Or reduce access to these kinds of sites? Or at least some way to scan user's files for cheats before they enter a sever? ...Casue nothing kills a MP game faster then a heavy volume of cheaters.

My suggestion is to be choosy about which server you play on.

Come on neo stop swearing, please? bigzooka: chop: Cheaters will always be around well atleast that i know of and company`s can do wahtever thay can do and still hackers will think smarter and push around the block for hacking/cheating.Its just to simple to them.
But hey i want them busted or caught or punished etc.... just as much as most players playing mp games these days but the best thing we can do is probably ban from a server and thats about it but what else can there be done.
Ah well,there should be like a hackers server,this way the hackers will have a challenge against other hackers so they can keep to themselves.
Just how i feel

Actions can be taken to keep the cheaters at a minimum, but that's about it I would think. There will never be a way to eliminate them altogether. As long as the developers give the players the tools to create someone will use those tools to destroy. That's human nature.

The best thing we can do on a personal level is to pay attention to where we play and who we play with. I've joined servers where people are floating all over the map, landsharking, etc, etc...and I just leave. Players in this community (aa.com/aan.net) and cheaters are like oil and water. If you let it be for enough time we'll form two distinct groups. Let the cheaters play with the cheaters and we'll have fun enjoying the game as it was intended.

If the development companys dont help control cheaters, their isnt much to do but play on a well admined server. Cheat sites are not illegal and trying to close or hack them is a form of censorship/vandalism worse than cheating. I have had very few encounters with cheaters, and if I have, it was just a challange. I saw my first landsharking last night on AAN and after a brief conversation with the guy, he agreed to quit. If he hadnt, I would have left.

Thats what I like about the concept of the Ponto40 Anticheat product or Dogmeats Dogtagz, the ability to stop cheaters from getting into game servers with their cheats!!
Like Lowspark said, be choosy about your servers. Good server admins will install thesse products because they want to run a good game! Let those cheatin SOBs go to the servers where the admins dont give a ****! They can all enjoy each other's cheatin.

to note on this topic about the anti-force models mod that is out now.

i joined a server today with force models on. when i entered the server, only about 80% of the skins were forced. so i went and unchecked and checked the button again. then all of the models went forced. about 5 minutes later, some of the skins werent forced anymore. so i just entered a console command and fixed that little problem.

simple as 1,2,3.

I'm actually quite pissed that you were witness to that and that he got away with it. The rule on the server is that if you are caught, you're banned. Simple. However, not all admins can be there all the time and I think that's where I fail my server the most. The most I can do during most hours is watch through the eyes of AutoKick, which doesn't tell you when someone's cheating.

Anyone from aa.com who plays on AAN, I would deeply appreciate your help in policing this stuff by reporting the offender to me or another admin (for which we can at least observe the offender the next time we see him/her). I just want you all to know that I don't allow it and I DO in fact want a server that's as quality as those most of you play on.

this is a mod not a patch. what you say might have relevance if you knew what mods the server was running.

There are always loads of posts on cheating - I agree with the above - pick your server - you get to know the guys there, their style etc etc

I know there are some cheaters out there but you can't let it ruin your game. Folks are working on ways to stop it but there always be new ones coming along.

As long as the number of decent players outweights cheaters then we can keep kicking the cheaters off when we find them. I know it's frusrating....

I know. I would have given you his name, but after a letting him know that he would get banned for doing what he was doing, he stopped land sharking. If he had been confrontational or insisted on continueing, ou would have heard from me. Everyone knows you cant always be there and the server seems to be quality. I will be by form time to time.

You must not be talking about DMz, because it simply toggles force models on or off depending on the setting, none of this "80%" or "some of" stuff. The server makes the client give the command to set the cvar, and while you can switch it back you can't stop it from accepting the server defined setting every cycle it sends it. In the future it'll individually scan players and thus we'll be able to run realtime instead of cycling with a delay as it is now. Anyways I'm interested to hear what you used to defeat this, PM me if you would.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I had no idea how much work being an admin was until I rented this server. Not that I mind, but the fact that so many people out there insist on cheating is a little daunting.

In any case, the people who frequent the server are a great reason for it's quality, not so much the admin. Players policing players helps make the admin's job easier and keeps things fun for everyone.

Ugh... damn I pick out up to 8 bright skinners a week! Plus I check people in the beginning of the map for people that just joined. And also anyone with an exedingly high score. I never knew what admins had to go. Through I don't regret taking an admin spot on AAN at all.

Here is my view on the subject. Other then for downloading warez, cheating is the lowest that gamers can go. It's really too bad that there are so many people out there that feel the need to cheat and ruin all these great games for others, just to get a kick out of things for themselves. I agree that when people accuse "you" of cheating when you have a significantly high score, it kind of gets annoying when you clearly aren't. Especially for those you are in clans, becoming known as a cheater can be very degrading to your personal reputation and people start questioning the integrity of the clan because of it it? But can you blame them? I mean when 25% (not proven facts) of the people that play this game are using some kind of cheat or hack, and over half are dirtectly exposed to them at some point, people are bound to be suspicious and question the authenticity of your word. Especially in an era of this game where lies seem to be a way of life.

I spend most of my time now a days just watching for cheaters in my room, but i will say it's hard when you have 300 people every 24 hours coming in.I have 6 admins for my server's and they all watch closely for cheaters, I also log and back-up everything from autokick, so even my other clan members that don't have rcon can still write down players names that cause problems and I can go back and find their IP's.But no matter what some of these guys will slip through. My clan has two servers both are snipers only and we have rules to try and keep the game fair. Check them out the rules on our site then come do some sniping.

Up until now I've been kinda trying to give you the benefit of the doubt. Of coarse, you're right, you don't give a chit what ppl think about you, otherwise you wouldn't be admitting (as you just did) that you're huge at cheating (**choke, cough, cough, cough, choke**).

Let me say that without the sarchasm. You do care what ppl think, and I think you need attention desperately. Why else would you outright admit that you're a hacker/cheater in an environment where you know you'll get nothing but hatred for what you do? And furthermore, to follow that up with a weak apology by saying you're changing your ways and doing what's important - mapping/modding?

So here's my advice to you, kid. Give it all up and find yourself a new game and a new community to take advantage of. You definately won't be too welcome around here anymore. Well actually Hacker1944, I do catch cheaters in my server.I never said I can detect or catch them all, duh. As long as I keep my server open to the general public there will be people cheating.I find it amusing that you keep telling people that they have to much free time just for making a quick 2 min post, when you are sitting there in your mommy's basement working on cheating, lol.Now that's a waste of time.And my post in this thread was not directed towards you at all, it was for people that don't know about my server's to come cheack them out.You should ask Taco Bell to give you more hours, since your replying to posts that are not even directed towards you. Maybe, just maybe with the extra hours you could afford your own server and you could set it up just for your 13 year old cheating buddies. I am unaware of any cheats to date like an aimbot or a wallhack but then again, I am not out actively pursuing these things. If you are looking for a relatively cheat-free server, visit Crow King's Forlorn Hope. I cannot garantee that there are not cheaters, but I will say this. No amount of cheating will get you to the top of the list at Crow's. Cheaters simply do not prosper there, and I know for a fact that the people who are regularly at the top of the list are honest gamers like you and I, just there to have fun. They are not cheaters and when they get accused of cheating its like a compliment to the size of your manhood. The mere mention of an aimbot or a wallhack makes me giggle like a little school girl....hehehe.
