Wat is the Best WW2 movie

Which is the best WW2 movie you have ever seen.

10-18-2002 09:02 AM

technically BoB isnt a movie but it will still get my vote, deleted windtalkers after an hour and the 2 hours of crap for pearl harbor doesn't appeal to me

Judas 10-18-2002 09:16 AM

windtalkers had some pretty good battle scenes, but overall it sucked !!!! The acting was pitiful.

I was surprised to see the captain guy carrying a shotgun !! ed:

I voted bob.

10-18-2002 09:25 AM

Hey, what about the classics.

If you want to go watch a movie about Pearl Harbor, watch Tora Tora Tora.
The new movie is crap.
Romance set aside they even screwed up teh war parts. A fighter pilot being transferred to bombers, come on be serious.

pest 10-18-2002 09:25 AM

I had to go with the non-movie title as well. SPR is a close second. Pearl harbor doesnt even belong on the list. I would pick old movies like midway, or guns of navarone or a half dozen others over PH. Just my 2 cents.

True, true.... I do like SPR, but the movies I saw when I was younger I like more, A Bridge to Far... The Great Escape...The Longest Day.... Bridge Over the River Kwai(sp?)....

wintersforge 10-18-2002 09:43 AM

Although camp as hell compared to today's standards, the old movies pwn. Sand of Iwo Jima was great! Cant forget Battle of the Bulge with the all star cast. BoB was great. A few episodes sucked IMO but overall it was great. It was interesting that some of the items dramatized in BoB were one or two sentence blurbs in the book. Kind of weird. I wonder what made them decide to add those parts...ie the whole German Luger issue for one....Peal Harbor was shit. SPR was great. Does anyone know what the German soldat was whispering to the jewish GI when he plunged the bayonet through his heart? oOo: ed:

This is tearing me apart.

BOB isn't a movie, but it is so good. I've only seen up to Ep. 5 however.

SPR has been my favorite movie for a long time.

Windtalkers was crap, but good battles.

Pearl Harbour I enjoyed. I thought it was a great movie. Yes it was long and there was some romance, but it was still a good movie. And who says romance is really that bad anyway? You guys think you're gonna get kooties or something? Ewww, grils are gross. Anyway I thought it was cool.

I don't think I can make an appropriate decision between BOB and SPR. I haven't seen all the Episodes of BOB, so I therefore disqualify myself so I don't have to choose. oOo:

Pfc.Green 10-18-2002 01:02 PM

Hands down the best war movie ever is *drumroll*....1941!!!.... eek:

Tripper 10-18-2002 08:45 PM

Who is this guy?? ^^^ biggrin:

What about, VON RYAN'S EXPRESS! Yay! That movie is fun....And if we are talking about TV series/minis.....Hogan's Heroes VS Band Of Brothers.....OoOOoo! Its a TOUGHIE!

CyberNautOFX 10-18-2002 11:25 PM

All of the ones you asked sucked except Band of Brothers. SPR was too inaccurate although the acting was the best. I haven't seen the longest day yet but I plan on ordering the movie online. The two best WW2 movies I have seen are A Bridge Too Far and To Hell and Back with Lt. Audie Murphy. That movie is sweet because Audie Murphy plays himself, and...um...abecuase I said so! mad: It's based off of his story of his experience in WW2. Catch it on TV, it's awesome.

DJBUCKSHOT 10-18-2002 11:36 PM

Nah, me has to go along with Saving Private Ryan... although the story line is shot to pieces, it really does give you somesort of taste as to what it might have been like in the war.

As for band of brothers, its not a movie :P

Well said...Its a travesty most dont know about Tora Tora Tora! I have that on dvd, man it is 100 times better than that jerry bruckheimer holywoodized garbage pearl harbor.

Hobbs 10-19-2002 11:54 AM

The first 15 min of SPR rocks!!!! Enemy at the gates was a sick movie too...
I like Where Eagles Dare..but i'm not sure if that was WW1.
Clint Eastwood is the man!!

10-19-2002 03:02 PM

ninty 10-19-2002 07:08 PM

Damnit now i'm not so sure.

Theres a thing on Tom Hanks now and they showed SPR.

So cancle my vote for BOB.

SPR and BOB tie.

Totenkopf 10-19-2002 07:12 PM

SPR, only because technically, BoB is not a movie.

What about Zulu? That was cool when those one gazillion Zulu's came running over the hill.....I would've crapped my shorts. ed:

rudedog 10-19-2002 09:34 PM

My choices

Modern: BOB
classic: Longest day, Bridge to far, and Big Red One.

Not WWII but "The Green Berets" was an awesome movie

Snipa 10-20-2002 07:53 AM

Some parts of saving private ryan u question but most of it is very realistic. So it got my vote.

Zoner 10-20-2002 08:06 AM

I went with Band of Brothers too, with SPR right behind it.

Other notable mentions are:

- A Bridge Too Far
- Das Boot
- Stalingrad
- Patton
- Midway
- Tora Tora Tora
- The Sound of Music (KIDDING! heh heh)
