Just kidding. I'm also working on custom status, and I'm think of trying out one of the two, voice your opinion if you've any.

a) Ranking. Like if you have 30 posts or less your title would be a Private, 30+ but 50- than Sergeant, 50+ 100- is a Corporal, 200 or more you're a Chief Warrant Officer, etc.

b) Free-4-all. Once you reach 30 or more posts, you have the freedom to choose from ~ 6 pre-defined titles.

Finally and once again, EVERYBODY can rate a topic, not only mods and admins. It's the drop down menu at the right bottom of the thread right above the "Hop to" menu.

BadScript

and if you do the military ranks , make yourself and every 2015 dude an automatic "General of the Army"(0-11) .

and the highest rank that any normal person can achieve would be 5 star General (O-10) or Lieutenant General (O-9)

Something fun like that..

BallisticWookie 06-17-2001 05:52 AM

Very nice job on the grenades BS http://www.pcgamers.net/ubb/biggrin.gif And yep I like the earning of ranks, choosing them doesnt sound right.

BallisticWookie 06-17-2001 07:22 AM

Private, Private 2, Private 1st Class, Specialist/Corporal, Sergeant, Staff Sergeant, Sergeant 1st Class, Master Sergeant, 1st Sergeant, Sergeant Major, Command Sergeant Major, Sergeant Major of the Army, WO1, Chief WO2, Chief WO3, Chief WO4, Master WO5,(OSS ??), 2nd Lieutenant, 1st Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Lieutenant Colonel, Colonel, Brigadier General, Major General, Lieutenant General, General.

Although I think thats WAY too many ranks for something like whats being proposed, I'd say put the "OSS Ranks" in between Master Warrent Officer 5 and 2nd Lieutenant ?? How many ranks should be included in the OSS ?? Did the OSS even have ranks, or did they just use the rank given to Army personnel etc ???

Polaris 06-17-2001 08:16 AM

or you can do just some of the E class like :
Private (E-2)
Corporal (E-4)
Sergeant (E-5)
Staff Sergeant (E-6)
Sergeant Major (E-9)

and then do the complete O class
(O-1) through (O-11)

Hells-Angel 06-17-2001 10:02 AM

its not going to start over is it?

Hells-Angel 06-17-2001 10:02 AM

I say ranking

BadScript 06-17-2001 10:03 AM

No I won't start counting again H-A http://www.pcgamers.net/ubb/biggrin.gif

Gen. Rommel 06-17-2001 10:04 AM

The gernades looks great! And I hope the rankings don't start all over..no no..I think I've been one of the fastest...not the guy with the most..but fastest to post? Huh...no...? Ok...!

Recycled Spooge 06-17-2001 10:08 AM

Granades are cool! Nice job.

Gen. Rommel 06-17-2001 10:16 AM

I kind of like the second choice....we get to choose our little ranks...goes along with choosing our little pics...

Polaris 06-17-2001 10:29 AM

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA all the way , baby

whats this choosing crap , make them earn their rank http://www.pcgamers.net/ubb/biggrin.gif

since Coriolis said that its was hard to get more then 2 ranks in UBB and as long as the predefined things arent military ranks i'm fine with that

but i still prefer earning military ranks , it makes it more fun !

[This message has been edited by Polaris (edited June 17, 2001).]

Hells-Angel 06-17-2001 10:30 AM

I think we should be able to choose the rate things like a american eagle, iron cross, nade, rosey the riveter =), a bullet, and stuff like that

Recycled Spooge 06-17-2001 11:03 PM

How about....
Private-0 posts
Private First Class-2 posts
Specialist Forth Class-4 posts
Corporal-8 posts
Sergeant-16 posts
Staff Sergeant-32 posts
Sergeant First Class-64 posts

..and make the requirements double every time? Once you get over 64 posts it will become more difficult to gain rank.

Polaris 06-17-2001 11:10 PM

like ign ?

sry , i forgot the question mark

Gen. Rommel 06-17-2001 11:18 PM

But that sounds hard!!!!!! No, I'm kidding...I don't care on the number really..I just want some cool looking military ranks...German, American, Russian, Canadian...as long as it looks...umm...neat.

0 to 2 posts will be private.

Polaris 06-18-2001 12:31 AM

0 to 2 is too short of a length for a private . i think they should be privates till around 40 posts or something

Hells-Angel 06-18-2001 12:33 AM

how bout 20, then 40 is corporal, 60 sergeant, 80 lieutenant, 120 captain, 160 major, 200 general etc etc

Polaris 06-18-2001 12:39 AM

"200 general"

you already want to be a general , huh ?

lol

i'd say make a general around 1500 posts or something

Yes, but it will become twice as difficult to gain rank after that. It will go, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048 and so and so and so..... Hardly anyone, if anyone at all, will be in the high ranks. If you do the ranks up to 200, it will get useless for the oldbies!

Polaris 06-18-2001 02:21 AM

i'd say , keep it simple

Private -zero to 100 posts
Corporal -200 posts
Sergeant -300
Staff Sergeant -400
Master Sergeant -500
Sergeant Major -600
Second Lieutenant -700
First Lieutenant -800
Captain -900
Major -1000
Lieutenant Colonel -1100
Colonel -1200
Brigadier General -1300
Major General -1400
Lieutenant General -1500
General -1600

after that you're an full-blown OSS agent !

But if we use my idea, there would be lots of variation, which would make it more interesting. If we used your idea everyone would be either Private or a corporal, and maybe one or two would be Sergeants.

Hells-Angel 06-18-2001 04:17 AM

100 for private, what would the people with only 6 be? and also maybe we should look at the day of defeat ranks I have 169 posts right now and thats captain

well , lets wait and see what BS decides . it still isnt final that he is going to do this . it might be too hard to do .

plus , two or three months from now , when a newbie asks you "when will he become a Lieutenant Colonel ?" ...wouldn't it be easier to tell him that its when he reaches 1100 or 1200 posts instead of a crazy number like 1024 or 2048 ?

yes !!! . i won . hehe

jk

maybe BS can do a mix between both of our ideas and make it even more confusing http://www.pcgamers.net/ubb/biggrin.gif

BlueDevil 06-18-2001 09:08 AM

LOL

BallisticWookie 06-18-2001 10:46 AM

I dunno about those E and O classes, they only represent the pay grades, but I do agree, I dont think we need the warrant officers.

Polaris 06-18-2001 10:52 AM

Rank/Grade

Recycled Spooge 06-18-2001 10:56 AM

Hold on, I'm a bit lost. These ranks are to replace the "IBM-PC Compatible" thing, right?

Polaris 06-18-2001 10:57 AM

thats what BS is thinking about according to this thread

Gen. Rommel 06-19-2001 10:05 AM

I don't know...but variation would be nice. Places like the THQ board has everyone as a JRMember or a member, so it's not that fun.
