What British TV programmes get shown in USA/Canada?

I'm just wondering because we get loads of yank programmes, but I'm not sure if any other countries get any of our programmes, which actually aren't about posh people drinking tea wearing bowler hats

11-09-2002 02:55 PM

we have a British channel on cable. some i seen are absolutely fabulous. of courses Monty python. young ones. lots of shit i wouldn't watch. you guys have a very different sense of humor.

but yeah we have a 24 hour all bbc channel.

ninty 11-09-2002 03:00 PM

I don't think I get any brit channels, but there are some shows on occasionally. Faulty Towers and those sorts of shows.

Bartlett 11-09-2002 03:01 PM

so you haven't seen The League of Gentlemen or The Office?

ninty 11-09-2002 03:01 PM

Don't think so.

Bartlett 11-09-2002 03:04 PM

oh Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights is another one. try and dowload some episodes from Phoenix Nights and The Office, if you're sensible you should like them

DEVILS ADVOCATE 11-09-2002 03:04 PM

Bartlett 11-09-2002 03:05 PM

Tripper 11-09-2002 03:06 PM

Well, Bartlett, unlike our less loyal commonwealth members... evil: ...like Canada...
....New Zealand channels play many a british made show...we get The Office, soooo funny! I love that show! Mockumentry at its finest!

I'm j/k Ninty, you know I would gladly hop in your canuck pants!

DEVILS ADVOCATE 11-09-2002 03:07 PM

Innoxx 11-09-2002 03:13 PM

We get a whole shitload of reruns from Faulty Towers, Black Adder, and Monthy Python. We also have BBC World. They have BBC canada and BBC kids but I don't have satellite or digital cable.

we get a few british shows...mainly really old ones..
Coronation Street, Are You Being Served, Keeping Up Appearances, Blackadder, Yes Minister, who's line is it anyway (the original one) and monty python. And I think we might get Fawlty Towers. I never watch tv so I had to go ask my g/f -l- she's a brit.
I think that's it for regular cable.

Bartlett 11-09-2002 03:19 PM

The Office isn't a sitcom, like Tripper said, it's a mockumentary. Where abouts you up to in The Office Tripper, the second and final series has just finished here

Tripper 11-09-2002 03:43 PM

We're like 4 episodes into the first series!

My favourite british shows:

Bang, Bang It's Reeves & Mortimer
Shooting Stars
Harry Enfield
Young Ones
DAD'S ARMY
Monty Python
Alan Partridge...<- Anything with Steve Coogan as this guy, is brilliant.
Men Behaving Badly
Father Ted
MR. BEAN
The Thin Blue Line

Captain Bunny 11-09-2002 05:35 PM

I have to say i didnt much like the office.

I dont know if it gets shown in england yet alone abroad but Still Game was hilarious.
There is no denying it that Britian make the best comedies.
(except when the US has an election freak: )

Bartlett 11-10-2002 01:47 PM

hey Tripper, you ever seen The Day Today, Alan Partridge is a character in that, it's basically a mock news programme, and it's bloody hilarious, you'll really like that if you like anything with Steve Coogan in

Bartlett 11-10-2002 01:59 PM

http://www.koekie.org.uk/funnel/tdt/

that's a load of transcripts from The Day Today, if you read them, remember, it's not meant to be serious!!

Captain Bunny 11-10-2002 06:25 PM

Wasnt that programme on channel 4 (uk) it was like a piss take of the news. They did one about peadophiles and made a reenactment of a man disguised as a school to lure kiddies towards him.
It was funny as f*ck and they even had some celebs giving out warnings about men disguised as schools.

mr.miyagi 11-10-2002 07:19 PM

brass eye

Captain Bunny 11-10-2002 07:24 PM

Brass eye. thats it. heh biggrin:

Pfc.Green 11-10-2002 07:27 PM

Theres a channel on digital cable called BBC America, I watch that alot. I love British humor it's in my opinion much, much funnier.

Mr.X 11-10-2002 08:03 PM

Father Ted, a truly funny show...I love it!

My Lovely Horse
My lovely horse running through the field,
Where are you going with your fetlocks blowing in the wind?
I want to shower you with sugarlumps,
And ride you over fences,
Polish your hooves every single day,
And bring you to the horse dentist,
My lovely horse, You're a pony no more,
Running around with a man on your back,
Like a train in the night,
Like a train in the night.

Tripper 11-10-2002 09:29 PM

Hehe, I think I have seen that show, Bartlett....If it is the one I'm thinking of, It's funny as shit!

Aaah, look at all us Commonwealthers, chatting away....Good times....

Bartlett 11-11-2002 02:40 PM

yeah that was Brass Eye, it was the same people as in The Day Today, that paedophilia special one made me piss my pants:

"Why is it that the British isles are now referred to as, The Paedoph Isles?"

"This man has been going round [insert British city], cunningly disguised as a school. What do you think [insert woman's name]?
Yes we much catch that man, he really is a shit."
