WHOEVER SOLVES THIS PROBLEM IS A GENIUS!!!!!! (rails)
In the server we play on, you cannot shoot throught the open spaces in the rails. For example: in Ramegen where the balcony is on the axis side....if a player is crouched down you should be able to shoot him through the open spaces in the rails or the person crouched should be able to shoot players approaching. Also cannot shoot through the rails on the stairs either. This isnt the only map that is like this. Any instance of rails and open spaces is blocked like a shield. This is annoying and not what I consider realism. I have talked with serveral admins and they have no clue why this occurs. Recently the ISP just re-installed the game on the game server to see if it fixes and it didnt. Someone that can relate to this situation could be a big help. No forums or any other resource can provide an absolute answer. Thanks!!!

I don't think there is a way to fix this. I have noticed it along time ago. I think we just have to live with it. cry:

my guess is that when they made it they didn't clip each rail seperatly, it's just one big clip

then what can be dont to resolve this. I am sure there is a fix. servers in the same range of the ip playing using the same game server host do not have this problem.

Well theres sort of a fix. But it would be a weapons mod. Just increase the wood and metal penetration values for specific weapons. The weapons should then be able to pass rounds through the railings. Naturally you would want to set it so it doesn't pass through with no problem each time. But then again do the different static bldg models on the maps have "hitpoints"? In other words, do they have different hitpoints relative to thier actual density and structure? I noticed that depending on the object you are behind in the new SH maps depends on wether or not a round can go through portions of it. We had a sniper who was hitting people who were behind a chunk of wall which was sitting out in the middle of a street. I knew exactly where he was after he killed me and I found that more than one person was hit from behind that debrie after I was killed. I checked the debrie to see if there was a hole or crack in it somewhere. But there wasn't.
I already created a realism mod for the server I admin on. So when working with the weapons I did see they gave wood and metal penetration #'s to each weapon. The one weapon with the highest penetration # was the MG42, naturally. I don't believe the sniper rifles had higher penetration #'s than the normal rifles or mg's. This is something I myself plan on testing down the road. Soo I would like to see if anyone can answer this too. I posted this in the board of developers forum too. |
which files inside the pk3 would need the editing.....the rails i refer to are the ones on....ramage, the balcony that looks out to the axis spawn area and also the wooden stair case rails inside the house......southern france, both bridges that have railing and all the balconies that have railing......starlingrad, the medal rails thats on top of the stairs from the backside.....algiers, both sets of railing from the center squad area and the railing on the balcony at the end of the alley.....thats all i can think of right now but if i you can help me on which files in particular need to be edited would be highly appreciated.

remember its not the metal railing itself im i want to shoot through....the railing bars are connected..........its the visible open spaces between the railing that anyone should be able to shoot through......for instance, if you were crouched down behind the railing....i would be able to see you clearly cause of the open spaces and shoot

I could have a simple explanation here!!
Hi,
I was wondering: can you shoot from one side through the open areas or is the shooting blocked from both sides? IF IT IS FROM ONE SIDE ONLY: maybe there is an invisible texture in front of the whole railing. I am making my own map and I tried to make a grill. After texturing it like a metal stair grill...I Textured the other side of the grill with the texture: ´grill´ (common) When I was playing my map...I noticed I was able to shoot through the grill only one side!! When I tried to shoot from the otherside..all the bullets were blocked! SO the ´grill´ texture blocked the bullets. In MOHradiant the ´grill´ texture is visible...but while playing it is invisible...so you can see through it..but you DO SEE the metal stair grill texture. If the shooting is blocked from 2 sides...I really dont know what might be the problem. Maybe an invisble texture is placed on 2 sides of the railing ed: Good luck |
btw: I know many servers do not have this problem...but maybe some dork modifed the map a bit.....just to make it harder to play?? and after that renamed it remagan again? fire2:

I left a post at TMT for a test I want you to try. We need to establish a baseline.
|
yes, both players cannot shoot through the open spaces between the rail from either side.
|
nobody modified nothing
|
mmm..
too bad....well...i have no other sullution...good luck anyway! Greetzz |
i had the same problem on my vervins map (http://modtheater.com/forum/showthread. ... eadid=3182) on a gate and the way I fixed it was to make the actual open spaces. So, if I have a fence that i cant shoot through, i make the individual bars from the rest of the rail texture and only make the bars and leave the textured open space unbrushed so you can shoot through it. This might increase fps slightly but thats the only way i could get it to work.

The rails are blocked with solid metal clip brush. If you know how to map or have used the map editor thne take a look at the sample map that came with MOH. In that map you will notice how they used clip brushes along the stairs and along the railings. This is done to prevent a player from getting 'hung' up will running around close to the railing. By using a solid clip brush the player can just hold down the forward key and not worry about getting hung up on a railing post or a rail. So to me there is no fixing this unless you redo the map which is not much of an option. Ummm I seen a reply where the person suggests increasing the firepower. Hmm that to me seems even more absurd than remaking the map. Increasing the firepower to what ? So that all weapons will fire through any walls ? No that is not a solution either. The fact of the matter is, its how the map was designed that prevents you from shooting through the rails. And this design is actually in the best interest of the player, as stated above, to ensure smooth movements in and around the railing.
G3mInI ps... Im Back !! :) |
This is the 5th thread on this problem I've seen and still no one has an answer.
