what does the 'realism mode' do in spearhead?
i see it when i make a server, but what EXACTLY does it do? i tried shooting someone with and without it, and i couldn't tell a difference. bigzooka:

in real life a BAR could very well reach out and touch someone at 800 yards, but here it shoots like shit at 50 yards WTF??? |

If that's the case who would want to play with realism on? I don't mind less ammo, but the accuracy really pisses me off. There is no reason I should need to unload half the Russian SMG's ammo into a German's chest from 10 feet away to kill them. This happened all night last night. Some of it was due to that ridiculous "back-slide" or "crouch-slide" BS, but still... After playing CKR exclusively for quite some time SH's realism has totally thrown my game for a loop. Where are you Crow King? The players of SH need you! |
real or realism?
Realism (in SH anyway) is supposed to make weapons more lethal but less accurate. I don't have much to say about damage, but man they sure make the weapons inaccurate. I've blazed away with a BAR and not been able to hit anything over an appreciable distance. Most annoying.
Most "realism" mods I've seen seem to go from one extreme of modify the whole range of weapon factors from making a shot in the big toe lethal (CKR), to making it impossible to put two shots within a mile of each other (Ares). The worst I've seen is people running SH with fast-movement and realism enabled, turns everything into a quick-death frag fest. Curious to know, I've seen people crouching and firing while on the move, is that just an evasive manuever or does it actually increase accuracy? I've also noticed people shooting at my feet, aren't head shots supposed to be the most lethal place to hit someone? What is this "crouch/back sliding" you refer to? Just an anim effect or is it a cheat? |
The crouch/back slide is a glitch. You'll notice people crouching down and sliding at fast speeds around the map. It is to be corrected with the first patch.

Custom realism servers are out there. You just have to look. I am playing just like I did last week, only on spearhead this time.

realism is for little girls... The way i see it realism makes for easy kills. it is the closest thing you can get to a cheat with out cheating. What people should to is spend time getting better, go for head shots and not complaine about the difficulty of a kill.

BTW. if you are so sure that one BAR round in the chest won't kill you, come to my house and I'll prove you wrong. (oh, you can't cry "cheat" after you're dead) |
Ya I noticed the realism affects accuracy. Why not just keep regular play and just limit the amount of ammo with a RCON CVAR command. Anyways I was playing on Turpentines SH server. Very good, he's got the speed down to regular MOH, 3 frags, 1 smoke, and the KAR instead of the other German sniper rifle, I think he allows the lean/strafe binding too.
Unfortunetly the crouch and slide people are everywhere!!! I hope they fix that bug soon!!!! |

CKR would be perfect if someone could put in a system where you can only have so many heavy weapons per certain number of players (like in America's Army Ops) so if you only have 6 people on a team they have 1 MG 1 SMG and 1 sniper allowed, rest must be riflemen. if more people join more heavy weapons are opened. |
I actually checked the weapons config files in Spearhead and found this about "Realistic" weapons:
1. Weapons are MORE accurate. By far. This is why everyone is (should be) using the SMGs. Faster movement speed _and_ reasonably accurate fire. 2. Weapons are only slightly more powerful. Few weapons are 1-shot kills, except for headshots. One exception is the Russian rifle, which does the most damage per shot (110). 3. Pistols and not-zoomed snipers are WAY more accurate. They are actually useful beyond point-blank range. Remember to use your pistols instead of reloading! There are many ways to make a "realism" mod. It's a balance between accuracy and power. CPR/CKR make the weapons insanely powerful and some weapons very accurate like the MGs. The SMGs are totally inaccutate, btw. Other mods remove ramdom bulletspread altogether, but pump up the recoil. BWM comes to mind. MOH:SP has made the weapons slightly more powerful and significantly more accurate. It's a reasonable trade-off and time will tell if their approach works.
