how about have a button to call out "thunder!". if it is an american around the corner he replies, the obvious, "flash!", so you dont pop your own dudes hiding in a mg nest. if it is a german around the corner he gets pissed and brings all of his friends(hear them speaking gibberish and so on). that would be sweet. also how about if you call for a medic he isnt always able to help you. such as, he doesnt have the correct kit items. like in band of brothers, the medic was looking for scissors and supplies. get where im coming from guys?

Soldier_79 11-02-2001 02:30 AM

FLASH!...THUNDER! that's SWEET!

EaSyTrIcK50 11-03-2001 05:45 AM

wouldn't it be hard to add in a medic? The main thing i think would be cool for this mod would be a coop Multiplayer. Like we could fight the battle of the bulge with us guys together in this forum. Wait, is this mod going to be primarily Multiplayer like DoD or were you making a Single player game too?

sorry john, hehe. right exposure, right time. anyway, isn't it "thunder" and then they say "flash"?? i thought it was but you guys think it is flash, and then thunder. someone want to clear this up for me???

intrestedviewer 11-03-2001 07:54 AM

flash then thunder, just as u see a flash before u hear thunder

[lld] Chow 11-03-2001 08:55 AM

i actually think its a term that is used vice versa, it doesnt really matter, just a code to signify an allied force. but fuz
ill have to check saving private ryan. remember when the airborne sargent yells "thunder or we will fire on you..." to the french civilans.

[lld] Chow 11-03-2001 08:58 AM

oh and miller sorry i must have skipted over that posting, but excellent idea both of you.

Soldier_79 11-03-2001 09:46 AM

maybe you guys might think this is stupid, but what if we can dig fox holes. just another suggestion.

I think that before each mission you should be able to pick your man and select all of his "accessories" (guns ammunition secondary weapon medical supplies etc). A first person view is great. Battle outcomes not always in ally’s favor. When you beat the game and get a certain number of points you can unlock secret missions where you can play as a German. Select squad from a pool of historically accurate men(Talbert,Webster,Malarky,Luz,etc). Maybe you can be promoted throughout the game determined by points received(or by historical perspective) and end up leading your men through battle. Go on night patrol with your squad and do a little reconisance. You can pull out a map and find where you are located from your starting point and to the nearest known enemy. Also on the map you can set up a defensive perimeter and where you would like your men to dig fox holes.
Thanks for reading and good luck!

Deadly Dozen, right?

Kraut Killer 11-04-2001 01:13 AM

In real life the challenge was "Flash" and the reply was "Thunder". Saving Private Ryan had it backwards. The main reason is that Germans have trouble pronouning the "TH", They would pronounce it "Sunder", or at least that was the idea, to rely on the Kraut accents.

[lld] Chow 11-04-2001 01:41 AM

uh......how do you know saving private ryan had it backwards?

Kraut Killer 11-04-2001 01:49 AM

I've read a couple of books on D-Day, they have it right in Band of Brothers, and I'm the fucking man. Hell, you know Guarnere, ask him. And this isn't the only thing SPR has backwards. The log ramps on the beach are backwards as well, and there are a number of other things wrong with that movie, granted it is probably the most realistic movie ever, I wouldn't use it as a D-Day bible.

There should be an M1 carbine. The thunder flash thing sounds great. You should be able to go to one knee, and completely prone (laying would increase accuracy or crosshair movement) Some weapons (BAR ect.) should cause the player to slow down. Ricochet's maybe?

[lld] Chow 11-04-2001 03:34 AM

wooooooo, easy man i was just asking. and i did ask richard winters not bill gaurnere about that a while back. he says the thunder, flash thing is used vice versa. just like i said. it goes either way. but we will have a flash and a thunder command. oh and those log boats are actually called higgins boats. and your right the 2nd ranger battalion companies didnt land on omaha on higgins boats, they were LCA's. or landing craft assault boats lead by the british.

Kraut Killer 11-04-2001 04:28 AM

Well... Charlie company of the 2nd Ranger Battalion landed in Higgins, as did a few others, because the LCA's were fitted with a rocket launcher with a grappling(sp?) hook attached so the Rangers could climb Pointe Du Hoc, HOWEVER... Charlie company DID land in Higgins boats because they weren't going to Pointe Du Hoc, they went to open the Viervelle exit with the 29th.

[lld] Chow 11-04-2001 04:43 AM

sorry thats not correct. i also know rangers such as leonard lomell and sidney saloman. sidney was a platoon leader of c-company and he didnt land on omaha on a higgins boat. he landed on a british LCA. i thought so too but he told me he landed on the beach from an british LCA and not a higgins boat. he lives in doylestown, PA http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/smile.gif

wow this mod will be great. EXCELLENT IDEAS! caparzo take notes! http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/smile.gif

Kraut Killer 11-04-2001 08:31 AM

Eh... maybe you're right, that's just what I've gathered from the Longest Day... it doesn't give a vivid description. Do you know the C-company CO?

Fuzzywig 11-04-2001 09:29 AM

you know that we consumers could make the most kick ass game ever???? reading these forums makes me think so. damn programming languages too complicated though... anyway i pray to god we can get all of these ideas into the mod. im so excited for all of this to come together!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[lld] Chow 11-04-2001 11:08 PM

ok ok since ive last posted there have been tons of important comments and questions. first off there is a single player and mutiplayer mode for the mod. you will be playing not only as major winters in single-player. which ever vet we feel contributed the most in each mission you will be. i will talk to mr. chichi about the incorrect posting on the site. also there will be a carbine with fold-in stock. i know these vets because i am doing a senior project documentary on D-Day and it just so happens that all of these famous, important veterans leave near me! oh and NEVER EVER use the longest day as an accurate D-Day source. it is incredibly inaccurate! for christ sake john wayne is it, enough said on accuracy! http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/smile.gif

11-04-2001 11:50 PM

by the way for D-Day landings one should play as Guarnere and for the destruction of 105mm you should play as WInters, for attack on Carentan- Lipton and for Defence of Carentan- maybe Welsh.

M1 Carbine will more than likely be in the actual game, just we havent been able to see a complete list of weapons yet. I really dont like the idea of certain weapons slowing you down. It not the most realistic thing the world. A BAR would not cause you to have a slower running pace. Maybe you can run at full speed, but have to stop more often to regain stamina. Just like in DoD when you jump to much ? I've carried a few Assault Rifles and some Heavier Machine Guns and they dont slow you down, your arms grow tired after a while, but it doesnt really matter because you really only fire a HMG from the prone position. Also you can kneel and go prone (from what we've seen in the movies) so why would they need to include them in the mod as a mod ??

Do not attempt to adjust your set, this is a streaming freedom video bulletin. The cable hack will last exactly 60 seconds, it cannot be traced, it cannot be stopped, and it is the only free voice left in this city.

Fuzzywig 11-05-2001 06:42 AM

well killer,
im a part of the Bob team and i guess you're right. talk to our webmaster guy, mr. chichi. must have been poor research on his part. anyway, who cares if you do play him throughout the mod? it would save us alot of time...

Nazi_Killer44 11-05-2001 10:03 AM

The BOB site says your gonna play as Lt.Winters for the whole game, yet he was pulled out of action during Market Garden. What is that all about? Also i just wanna double check, will there be single player missions in the MOD?

Kraut Killer 11-06-2001 06:26 AM

The Longest Day is perhaps one of the best BOOKS written about D-Day, it has both the German and Allied point of view, granted the movie took many, many liberties, if you ever hear me talking about things from the Longest Day, I'm talking about the book.

[lld] Chow 11-06-2001 06:51 AM

ok, but regardless C-Company of the 2nd Ranger Batallion landed on Omaha Beach from British LCAs. But i do admire your interest in WWII. http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/smile.gif

Nazi_Killer44 11-06-2001 09:09 AM

Will the mod ship in a box, or will it first be a download, then go to the box(Like CS for Half-Life)? It may be WAY to early to know, but just an educated guess.

Soldier_79 11-06-2001 09:28 AM

it would be hella funny if people wouldn't even play mohaa, they would just buy it to play the bob mod.

------------------
http://www.geocities.com/nonsensebs/soldier_79.jpg

[lld] Chow 11-06-2001 11:31 PM

yeah that would be funny, but we need some help inorder to get everything done for beta 1. also the first couple of betas will be downloadable, and we will see if the mod becomes bigger then the game. we will go from there.

Milla 11-06-2001 11:51 PM

Cant you just make us choose who we want to be? instead of you guys making a new character for each level. And the player picking the vet is someone they would really like to be. Like have a character selection screen. I just think that might be cool

i think that would be cool, but certain levels in the singel-player mode are based on the vets' experience. the levels are set-up for that specific vet. otherwise we would do it. you can choose the vet in mutiplayer though.

Milla 11-07-2001 12:12 AM

Thats understandable . thanks for at least answeing my question. At least i can pick Compton and guraniere in Multiplayer http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
