who has a Geforce4 Ti4200? I want your opinion.

Okay, I'm thinking about upgrading my ATI Radeon 8500 LE 64MB to a Nvidia Geforce4 Ti4200, Ti4400, or maybe a 4600. If anyone has these Geforce cards, could u please post a review on it? Thanks. Spearhead isn't so great on my current OEM Radeon.

if u can get the TI4600 my dad has a 4200 and everything runs really good on it, but i think the 4600 would be even better

Miscguy 11-24-2002 02:12 AM

G4 Ti 4200 128 ddr.

Damn fine card I have nothing but praise for it. Frames are never an issue in mohaa. Nice price for it to. Personally though i would wait until The next step in G force cards come out. That will lower the price of the 4600. Besides by then you may have enough saved to get one of the new fancy cards.

it's expensive, but i hear that image quality is pretty similar between the 4200, 4400, and 4600.

[url:822b7]http://www.tomshardware.com[/url:822b7] and look for reviews.

KTOG 11-24-2002 01:14 PM

my FPS are an average of 70 ... i have an xtaxy GF4 Ti 4200 128 ddr. no problems yet and very cost efficient. Plus every game i've played with it works perfectly.

I have a Geforce 4 Ti4200 and it runs fine, but I would still go with a 4600

con Brio 11-24-2002 07:14 PM

alright, thanks for the input so far. i forgot to mention, what about the Geforce4's anti-aliasing performance? Does it still have good fps with at least 4X aa?

11-24-2002 07:25 PM

Ti 4200 128 MB DDR

Runs great with MOH Spearhead & Raven Shield so far. Average of 70 or 80 fps. Great card, and good price.

is that average of 70 or 80 with or without FSAA???

11-24-2002 07:44 PM

FSAA?

I'm running 800x600
Everything on high detail

r3mix 11-24-2002 07:57 PM

bought a 4200 64mb about 4 months ago.
run MoHAA at max settings x1024 @ constant 90FPS
i cant see the point in buying a more expensive card.

con Brio 11-24-2002 08:45 PM

FSAA = Full Screen Anti-Aliasing

con Brio 11-24-2002 09:29 PM

maybe ill just save up for a Geforce FX. happy:

Ha, seems I'm the only other one here who understands what AA and AF are...

I have a 128 meg Ti4200, slightly overclocked. AA at Quintex and AF at 4x, and LOD at -2.5 I think. I run 1024x768 with all details on highest, frame rates run either at 30 fps, or at my cap of 50 fps (oddly enough, never in between ??). Snowy Park is the only place that the fps ever drops below 30, and that usually happens when I look up into the falling snow.

As for a recommendation, if you decide to buy, give Aopen a chance and grab their Ti4200 FAST version from http://www.newegg.com I bought it for a clients computer, and although I haven't fired it up yet (waiting on a few parts...) it has some impressive stats. It comes with 3.6 ns RAM, and the RAM comes clocked at 550mhz, and should be able to go higher. And it's priced at 150 bucks.

However, the gap between your card and the Ti4200 isn't huge. Depending on what your cpu is, the upgrade may not be worth it. Chances are your processor will have more effect on performance then the vid card. But I dunno your whole system, so I can't make that call.

EDIT: OH, and btw, you realize that 4x AA is the highest the Nvidia cards go right???

11-25-2002 12:31 PM

AA and AF as was mentioned are two VERY different things that can have a great effect on your game, its look, and card performance.

For my money, AA in GeForce cards doesn't amount to much - the same in ATI cards. Anti-Aliasing doesn't provide enough of a "smoothing" for my moneys worth, whereas Anistrophic Filtering will take ALOT of that edge of jaggies and not sacrifice game-performance. I prefer AA over AF, and NEVER both at the same time.

And who DOESNT get high ass settings at 800 X600. Please. Setting that low you better be getting good frames. 1280-1024 is the only way to go in my opinion.
