'Best OS'
I know there was another topic on this, but I'm asking you guys what you think the best OS is for making webpages and what not, best stability for anything(preferably applications and games).
What do you guys think? (Label the OS and what is comes with, etc) Another question: What is the best program for building webpages? (I'm an amatuar so don't list the most complicated web-building program on earth! :) (If you don't know, im building a webpage for a business, something to list my products, etc.) Thanks. |

Winders 2K is OK! oOo:
|
I was thinking about going Win 2k Pro, heard it was the best. Tell me other wise.
Looks like Im going with Frontpage. Anyone know a good host, .com provider? |
Yo, 98se for OS and NOTEPAD for all your webpage creation needs! biggrin:
|
going a little advanced eh solidus? biggrin: I got windows XP professional. Works like a charm. No errors ever. lol (i remember a long time ago i made a thread about how much i hated XP) things change biggrin:
|
I'm getting rid of Win 98SE because I'm getting 512 or more of RAM and 98SE only reads 256MB's.
I'm still stuck between Win 2k Pro and Win XP Pro. |
Just get XP Pro then...

Heh, I hear that XP is un-stable, and has tons of bugs, and I hear Win 2k Pro is VERY stable and vice versa... Oh well. |
Windows XP is idiot proof, i know biggrin: cant go wrong with it, auto updates and all the other stuff. And you will get your DoD to work right. ;)
What problem have you heard about XP? ed: |
Oh, the usual bullshit I guess. Heh ;)
I guess I'll go with Win XP PRO since it's newer, etc. |
use html, javascript and flash to make a good site...but you gotta have skill.
Anyways, use Frontpage if you are an idiot. |
Win2k is totally crash proof. XP is totally crash proof with a flaming ghey front end. Several cost comparison websites show that the Win2K Pro OS is also sold at a lower price than WinXP Pro OS. But I love my pretty picturessssss. ed:
|
If you plan on networking anything WIN2k. Both XP and 2000 run on the NT kernel and use the NTFS file system (aka tough to crash). I use XP and love it. Its a different interface, but once you get used to it, you won't want to go back.
|
Win 2k pro works fine for me. The only thing that seems to crash it is NFS hot pursuit, but that program is buggier than spearhead. I haer good things about XP pro but have never even seen it in use.

Wordpad is the webpage tool of the gods.
|
I had ME but hated it. Then tried Win2k and have used it ever since, very stable.
|
win ME is da BIZZITY BOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMB
|
yea i hear win2k is one of the best out there now

Alot of games are going to have problems running on win2k. Xp on the other hand was made for home and business users. I havent had a problem with any games or programs (except OLD programs) with Xp. I have both Home and Pro editions. If u use Frontpage, alot of web hosting sites either dont use FrontPage or charge you extra to use it. I would definitely check the site 1st before u decide on that. |
