Banning a whole site

Hi,

Was just curious how you ban a whole `pool` of IPs?

Its very annoying to ban a persistant offender for them only to reconnect 1 minute later with a different IP.

Say if you Ban an IP : 123.21.32.149 I know theres a way of banning all IPs from that particular area like IP : 123.21.32.***

Placing the stars where the last 3 digits are bans everyone in that `pool` right? Im not sure so asking you guys, also can I simply place this IP (with the stars) in the `Banned IPs` log of autokick for it to work?

Thanx for input,

p

=RP=Iceratt 12-05-2002 07:58 AM

Not true. I have DSL and I reset modem once a week. My IP has stayed the same for 2 years.

=FM=1st Lt prey 12-05-2002 08:05 AM

Thanx guys Id really like to know if this is possible, im just tired of kicking the same offenders time and time again!

p :)

pest 12-05-2002 08:10 AM

Yes, it is possible, but I dont know the proper syntax. Someone here will. Redneck - your IP only changes in the last set of numbers, so this type of ban would take care of you even if you reset your modem.

most dsl got static ip . And most cable got perm ip (some monhts )

If you close your modem for about 24 hours , you got a lot of chance to get a new ip.

Mr_nStuff 12-05-2002 01:35 PM

Yes, * is the universal "wildcard" for most things. Just put one though..

123.45.678.*

absolute 12-05-2002 02:19 PM

yeah, i have adsl and i have a semi static IP...It'll always stay the same until I manually refresh it with a new one.

vVolf 12-05-2002 07:03 PM

Some of my friends have programs that refresh their IPs when ever they get blocked for anything. I have no idea how to refresh them, but if i need to they will help me.

You might be able to find that special program that tracks IPs... I dont know what its called, but i do know its out there.

=FM=1st Lt prey 12-05-2002 07:09 PM

Awww dammit, I tried the * thing and that didnt work, tried following the link that was also posted, and that didnt work lol Im just gonna have to keep banning them *sighs* thanx for help its appreciated :)

by changing MAC adress?

umm this is hard , and not a lot know how to do that . ANd not all network card cand do that.
ANd your isp will not like this if he know .

=FM=1st Lt prey 12-06-2002 04:46 AM

Yeah I know gimps can `spoof` their IPs, dont they normally do that before hacking someone aswell?

Depends. If you have Dynamic IP, it can't be changed. If it's Static, it can be reset.

pest 12-06-2002 10:11 AM

My dsl IP reset every time I lost power to my modem (no ups backup). Dynaminc (well, actually a ppoe connection).

On the other hand, I had fits trying to set up my router for my cable modem. I assumed that since a friend of mine has cable on the same network and his IP hasnt changed in three years, that our cable was static. Customer support set me strait and all problems solved. Dynamic behaving very much like static.

Bazooka_Joe 12-06-2002 10:13 AM

That's odd. I'm sure you know this, but when setting up a new router, always get the Host name, Domain name, and IP type from the ISP.

Heh, I do now. I was resetting an existing router when I switched from dsl to cable (dsl sucks here). Of course, I know everything and dont like to read instructions, so when I called my ISP to get my IP address for my router config, they let me know me know that I am an idiot. In a nice polite fashion, of course.

Somehow I see this:

ISP: "This is Customer Support, how may I help you?"
Pest: "Hi, it's me again, (again, heh) I need my IP address, so I can setup my router."
ISP: "Ok, it's 149.111.69.4U (figure it out)"
Pest: "Great, thanks, bye!"
ISP: "Sir before you leave, you might want to che-"
Pest: "NOT NOW, DAMMIT! Must get porn!" *CLICK*

biggrin:

lmfao!!!!!!

rudedog 12-07-2002 07:01 AM

Dogmeats banning guide should help you ban complete subnet's by using your lmhost file ( locally to the server ) If your having your server hosted by a game server provider you can not use the lmhost trick.

Most cable / DSL providers have some type of dynamic IP address they issue you. Depending on the lease you will keep your IP address even if you renew or refresh your computer. This also goes if you reset your cable/dsl modem.

You can spoof your IP address but it does take some time, depending on the OS.

I hope CrowKing implements this in the next version of autokick. Another way around this is to use windows excel and generate all the IP numbers you wish to ban. Say 10.10.10.1 - 10.10.10.254. Just paste into your autokick txt file.

Now I don't recommend doing this but sometimes a server admin has had enough of the persons BS and something has to be done for the sake of others on his / her server.

=FM=1st Lt prey 12-07-2002 08:07 AM

Kick ass rudedog I think the last option was the easiest to do, any idea when the new auto-kicker is coming out anywayz?

rudedog 12-07-2002 09:27 AM

There was a thread by crowking in the forums at MOHadmin.com. He was asking what everyone wanted.

Have not herd back from him sense.
