I have no sound...help.
Ok, I was playing Spearhead all great until i downloaded the new patch. When i installed that, the sound doesn't work anymore! I went into the options menu-->audio and had everything checked right volume wise. No music or sound effects play when i'm in the game. I know my speakers aren't messed up since my other games and programs play sound perfectly. If anyone has ANY suggestions or clues to why my game doesn't have any sound, please reply. Thanks.

Make sure your speakers are on? LOL messin. Umm I don't have that prob kinda wierd, but check for error messages in your console like "ubersound" or other assorted probs. Post back here when you've done that.

did it and nothing was posted about anything with sound in it. I'm totally stumped on what to do. I reinstalled Spearhead about 4 times and the patch 4 times and nothing has changed--no sound!
|
hmm could be a conflict with Directx.... Shit I really want to help j00 but I'm stumped. Srry man :(
I think your best bet would be for you not to install the patch? Alot of server are still on 2.0 like AA.com and other really good servers. Plus the patch really doesn't do anything. |
i dont think anyone should install this patch
|
... I did, and the sound works great. oOo:

ok, i have found something else out. While i opened it, i said hey, why not....it won't hurt to look for any sound refrences in console for the 09784905734th time. So i did and saw that it said:
ERROR: trying to register sound sound/menu/apply.wav when soundsystem hasn't started yet. It says about 30 of those with different wav files. THEN it says: CDKEY NOT FOUND I DON'T have a pirated copy of this game MOHAA or Spearhead. I bought both and I have no idea what is meant by the CDKEY Maybe that helps with the sound mystery. Someone PLEASE HELLP!! lol |

Just checking... Do you even have the sound files in your directory? If you do, you might have a faulty CD key (maybe oOo: ) Or, your CDs might be faulty. eatthis:

Hmm. Well, have you edited anything in the directory by mistake? Maybe... Just maybe you could have gottena virus. Or, you might have to change the paths to the sound files in the system console thing.
They're just suggestions of what might have gone wrong. Just check and have a squiz if you changed anything, or if anything is missing, and if everything is correct in the system console thingy. |
Well, i reinstalled it soo many times; so i doubt the files would be in the wrong folders and what not, but I want to say thanks for your help so far. I appreciate it.
|
Its ok Garry... I just wish i could help more.
Hmm, well they might bring out a new patch for the patch which may fix it. I'm just wondering why it happened to you, and not me. oOo: |
here are some pics of my console:

Wow... Hmm, maybe the CD key isn't in the Registry.

I am not an expert on CD keys, but what it does is let you use the program. Its there so people cant pirate the CDs and sell them. I think the CD key goes into the registry, thats why it looks like registry keys in regedit.
How to get to the registry: 1. To to Start > Run. 2. Type in 'regedit' 3. Look around for the game. 4. Um... Maybe check if you can find the numbers/letters you typed in for the CD key verification. |
Oh, and Garry, your Avitar is stuffed. oOo:
Dammit, the forum isn't letting me edit my last post. Sorry for the double post. |
Gary, follow this:
http://mohaa.xgshosting.com/joe/installguide.htm After you follow that, DON'T install the patch just yet. Goto your soundcards website (http://www.creative.com, most likely), download the newest sound drivers for your game, and put them somewhere quick to access, DON'T install them yet. Install the patch, install the sound drivers, reboot, run config.exe from the MOH directory for Spearhead, then try booting the game. CDKEY = the code you put in when you first install the game. It's possible you have a bad CD. About 1 out of every 2,000 CD's has a bad CD-KEY. You may just need to replace your Spearhead disc, as the patch won't work properly with it. |

damnit Gary! It might be a problem with the Omaha 2 map! All you have to do is delete the ubersound.scr file from Omaha2 maps file.
