Best Headphones?

I really enjoy all the sounds in MOHAA and SH, and I have tried several headphones types and styles. I even invested into a pair of Sennhiezers (sp) at a 150 bucks, but I keep coming back to my $30 pair of sony ear clipon's for the best gaming sound. I was wondering what other ppl were wearing for headphones and what they they prefered? Maybe not a very exiting post, but surely I'm the only one who loves to slap on the headphones and hear all the ambient sounds in the game. I especially love to hear a guy's footsteps as he's about to sneak up from behind, and then I spin around and nail'em! Oh yea, that's fun!

Ear clip-ons better than 150 dollar headphones? My opinion obviously wont help you..

I use ATH-M400fs Audio-technica Studio headphones... And they will only run you bout 135 bucks.. But.. You will prolly like your clip-ons better.

heh

hamsters united 12-14-2002 08:37 AM

wanna trade that sennheiser for an extra pair of clip-ons?
Seriously, i can't imagine that anyone want to use them over a sennheiser.....they make the best headphones

Airborne Butters 12-14-2002 10:03 AM

I use 5.1 surround sound! But when I had to use headphones I bought a pair of 140 headphones. Then I relized I was a fool for spending that much, and found out my headphones I had for 4 years worked better.

LOL Irony!

Exorcist 12-14-2002 10:35 AM

The problem with the Sennheiser's is that while they are great for audio such as for music and movies, you bet, when i putem' on for MOHAA and others games I enjoy playing, they can't seem to pickup all the ambient sounds and they just wind up sounding muffled. I know it sounds strange but if you had a chance to try them you'd see very quickly what I mean. I'm taking them back today and instead of "upgrading" my headphones (my $30 earclip Sony's work the best so far), I'm gonna invest into some 3D glasses. The one's I'm gonna get are the one's mentioned on the homepage of Alliedassault.com (here). Read the review. They get an unbelievable review from the guy who critiqued them. A waste of a $1OO? Maybe, but I've always wanted a set for my 3D games. We'll see . . .

Thanks for the feedback,BTW.

I have a pair of Altec Lansing Headphones. Cost about $30.00. Sound is great. I can hear every foostsep, gunshot reverberation, comment.

descry 12-14-2002 02:11 PM

This site[/url:8be04] has good reviews on gaming headphones. I'd go for the Grado SR60's[/url:8be04] myself, for quality at a decent price. They're on my x-mas wish list. =)

Star85 12-14-2002 09:03 PM

I had a labtech (or something like that) for $30 and they worked great.

Then I broke 'em, so now Im using my SOCOM headset. Just plug it into a USB Port and be ready to go lol.

Drew 12-14-2002 10:10 PM

What about Sony MCVs? I mean.. every intelligent DJ in the world uses them. Sennheiser.. hah! Wear those things behind your table at any big show and get laughed at by anyone in the know. Sony all the way...

Villain4Hire 12-14-2002 11:27 PM

I myself have a SennHeiser.. cost me about the same price... thinking they would be godly with a pc considerin they do 5.1 sound but you know what.. when it comes to pc this speaker is the wrong one... they are EXCELLENT with audio and home theatre but that's about it........ so for the pc I got myself a Plantronics headphone... best darn investment headphones I bought for pc... its EXCELLENT...so if you want a good headphone you can't go wrong with Plantronics!!

aiwa HPCN5 noise cancelling headphones, I got them for Christmas last year and are awesome

vVolf 12-15-2002 02:21 AM

I don’t use headphones; I use 4 sub woofers, 2 tweeters and 2 normal speakers. When i shoot someone in the throat they DIE with a BBBBBLLLLLLLLAAAAAAAMMMMM!!!!!!!!!111231@!121

lol, anyway, in conclusion, get 4 subs, 2 tweeters, and 2 normal speakers to make your gaming experience breathtaking… Eartaking… What the fuck ever.

quickfist 12-15-2002 05:00 AM

vVolf 12-15-2002 05:21 AM

Bumping this old topic to add....

I ended up getting a pair of Grado SR80[/url:9b5df]'s for Christmas and they are freakin' amazing. Seriously. If you're looking for quality headphones look no further.

Exorcist 01-10-2003 06:35 AM

Hey Roland,

So, these Grado SR80's good for gamin', eh? I see that the reviews are glowing for both the SR60's and the SR80's as well. But really, how are they for gaming? Good highs and mid-range? How's the base response? I bought a pair of $150.00 Seinhiezers(sp), and they were great for music listening but sounded terribly muffled and 'canned' for MOHAA/SH gaming (as well as many other games I tried).

I like the price of the Grado's, very affordable. I'm gonna see if I can find a pair here locally in Atlanta.

Thank you for adding to this thread.

Well i just got these new head phones if u turn up the volume half way its already loud enough.

[513th] Kamil 01-11-2003 12:39 PM

what about a really good headset?

Unknown_Sniper 01-11-2003 11:21 PM

I use KOSS TD 61's I hear everything. Anything from a grenade pin being pulled to a door opening. I can even hear when some one is reloading. They help so much. The only thing Ive noticed was weird is that occasionally I hear a grenade hit the ground and it sounds really close but it could be across the map. That usually only happens in V2 though. Well Anyways they are nice and will run you no more than $50(USD) at most stores.

Bass response is really good, not muffled at all. Zero distortion. Same with highs, crisp and clean. :) Only thing that sucks (sort of) is that there's no volume control on the headphones, so everything is done through the game (or control panel). Not a big deal, really.

I've yet to read a negative review of Grado headphones. The only thing people bitch about is the comfort level, which i noticed after about an hour the first time i used them. Adjusted the headband (stretched it out a bit) and now no problems at all.

I know i sound like an infomercial, but damn, these headphones truly are great. :P

p.s. check your local high-end audio stores. Best Buy and other chains like that most likely don't carry them.

con Brio 01-12-2003 12:05 AM

sennheiser's suck ass. i bought one and had to return it.

go get Sony MDRs.

Wiseblood 01-12-2003 04:29 AM

AKG K270's is what I use. They're actually professional studio headphones, so it's a bit of overkill for the game, but since I have them, I use them. cool:

Exorcist 01-12-2003 03:49 PM

You sold me Roland! I gotta have a pair of these 'cans'. And hey, don't worry about sounding like a info-mercial cuz, the reviews concerning the Grado's that I have read all sound very positive and like, "WOW, these headphones are great. Get em'!".

Thanx for the feedback.

(Sorry Bazooka Joe, I see this thread has made back over here.)

Steve

why dont u just use ur speakers? hake:

Exorcist 01-13-2003 04:59 AM

At the risk of bumping this thread, the reason I prefer headphones to speakers is that I find I hear much more, with the sound source right at my ears. I still use my speaker system form time to time . . .

i usually hear the pin very loud and no explosion or really far away

i use studio-monitors so maybe that's a problem....

roland 01-15-2003 01:55 AM

Yep, headphones make a huge difference in moh. You can really judge where everyone is (or isn't) just by listening.. footsteps above you in the hotel, enemy sneaking up behind you, how close was that nade, etc etc. I guess if you have a really nice 5 speaker setup it would be close, but headphones can't be beat for sound positioning, imo.

Exorcist: post back your results on the Grado's (if/) when you up pick a pair. I'm curious to hear (no pun intended) what your thoughts are on them.

yep agree 100% you can even tell when some one switch from walking on one texture type to another very handy for working out which path someone is taking in an atempt ot sneak up on you.
