Depends on a few things: If the P4 is 400mhz FSB, or 533mhz. Default should be 533. the 533 runs for about 180, so if the board is more than 120, then no.

[quote="Old Reliable":7ecff]http://www.jdr.com/interact/default.asp[/quote:7ecff]

No, no no. . .. they overcharge about 80% of the time. 4PC is decent.

Be VERY careful of motherboard/processor bundles. Even though you get a good processor, you can get a substandard motherboard. Check the specs, see who the brand name is. Chipset, slots, AGP, PCI, check all of these things.

Nah, that's not true either. Maybe two years. Usually a good WD drive will last 2 - 3 years before it gives you problems. Hard drives should be swapped about every year, if they are not cooled enough. Otherwise, if they ARE cooled while in use, about 1 1/2 - 2 years.

Bazooka_Joe 12-26-2002 12:12 AM

Thats the 400mhz FSB

I can get you the same board for 87.00, and the processor for 185.00

That's why I asked him, too. But it's ASUS, but it's 400mhz FSB. If he's willing to pay 300 for items that will cost him about 260, he should just go for a 533mhz FSB board & CPU

Old Reliable 12-26-2002 12:14 AM

Heh, thanks for the advice, time for a new HD...too bad Western Digital dos not make one below 20 gigs. also how important is compatability of HD with processor and mobo and fans and all that jazz?

Bazooka_Joe 12-26-2002 12:20 AM

Just with the mobo. If the mobo has a ATA-66 connector, there's no need to get an ATA-100 drive, although most today are standard.

You should get a WD drive with 7200RPM, and ATA-100, ATA-133 if your mobo supports it.

I'm saving for Asus's new baby, the P4G8X (droooooooool.. . heh)

Old Reliable 12-26-2002 12:24 AM

yeah the one I'm lookin at is ATA 100 WD Caviar 20 gig , what mobo would go well with that drive?

Bazooka_Joe 12-26-2002 12:26 AM

Good hard drive, I had that one.

Like I said, any ATA-100 board. I trust only Asus, but others like Abit and Tyan too.

Old Reliable 12-26-2002 12:29 AM

damn I have to figure out which processor and Mobo to get at the same time oOo:

Bazooka_Joe 12-26-2002 08:28 AM

Old Reliable 12-26-2002 04:04 PM
