I was thinking about the forum...directed mostly at mods
i was thinking about the forum and site crashing alot and i decided to look
at the member list i was amazed 24,000 registered users and most of em don't even have posts maybe some peeps can start deleteing some acounts that are just wasting space i know some one is going to say something about this being my first post and believe me it isn't i created a new username cuz i forgot the user and pass to the e-mail acount i registered with, "[513th] Kamil" was the name any way, give some opinions |
You're askin admins to do what?
|
delete all the user acounts that have 0 posts!
all the other forums do the same |
They should gt the accounts deleted but its been asked for ages now with no real response.
|
I wish it was that easy.
BadScript is the only one who can delete any members accounts. I do agree that members with 0 posts that are over 6 months old should be deleted, with a warning ( announced in the forums or via news letter ) but I think the major problem is this site has gone threw some major changes over it's life. ( from one type of message board to another thus the data bases have been converted several times and BS has done a great job of keeping all the info ( with the exception of our join dates biggrin: ) I wish I had more of an answer for you guys but I only watch over the forums and make sure everyone is playing nicely swordfight: I for one have gone threw and deleted all my send saved and received PMs. Every little bit counts. |
Great job of keeping the info?? Most of my posts are now deadlinks if i wanna have a look back to june of 2k1 or so :(
|
This is true, but were lucky to still have our membership info. biggrin:
I have seen boards loose everything. mad: In a way I'm sticking up for BS as I work for him ( I hoe you understand ) but I also know it's not easy running a board of this size and trying to extend the db every time you have to upgrade. I would be willing to start over ( with our personal info saved ) and answer all the same questions again for the newer members if it would fix all the errors and downtime. I already have all the faq's and other docs saved as I lost them with the last changeover. |
Or perhaps a slight prune would work too. I would imagine that having over 100,000 posts in a single forum, would clog the board down too.
Off topic - I've been away from the community for a while, wanted to say hi Rudedog. I'll be getting back into MOH multiplayer in a week or so (once I can get off this crappy connection) and was wondering if the Allied Assault server was still up? Any other reccomended servers for MOH:AA or Spearhead now? |
no more aa.com cry:
|
Sorry aa.com dedicated game server is no more. It might come back if ea can get their act together. but I don't have the time to baby sit a server even with all the great admin's I have / had.
I would recommend the aan server ( all the old guys with a different owner) Chicken boo runs the server and you will find all the old players their. Check them out at http://www.allaboutnothing.com or the game IP = 66.230.149.83 |
*WARNING...BLATANT PIMPING...WARNING!*
[broken record]There is allso the AAN TS channel for anyone who plays on the AAN Server :) [/broken record]
|
I don't want to sound like a young whelp, Rudedog, but have you tried this 'deleting dodgy profiles' thing, or did you just assume BadScript would be to busy. Further to this, have any of the other mods tried to get temporary control similar to badScripts, so they can delete them?
my apologies if i sound ungrateful. I know how much of a pain-in-the-ass it must be to moderate stuff...i'm just adding my two cents biggrin: |
BadScript owns the board/site. He has given admin rights to Ballistic Wookie.
So BS and BW are the only people who have access to that part of the board. |
ok thx for all the replies and i guess nothing can e done...
can't bad script pick a selected few and give them admin privelages for like a day or two to do this crap...any way thx for the posts again Kamil |
yeah, that's what i was thinking, Kamil.
Good of you to respond to us plebs, Rudedog. Good form cool: |

Keep this thread alive with REAL opinions, not insults. I want to send this to BadScript. |
Here's what I think should be setup:
1) All members whom haven't posted since July 2002 should be removed from the database. 2) All members with no posts at all, and signed up before September 2002 should be removed from the database. 3) All threads that haven't been responded to since September 2002 should be removed, excluding stickys and news topics. 4) Auto-pruning should be setup for the Test Signature forum to 14 days. (This means after a post has not been replied to for 14 days, it will automatically be deleted from the database.) 5) Change the total of alloted PM's/saved PM's to something like 20/20. (Not sure if it's higher or lower.) 6) Reindex the database, then optimize it. IMO, I think this would reduce alot of slowdown on the forums, and possibly prevent some of the crashes in the forums. Who knows, maybe we could even bring back the edit/delete button by doing this. |
