Cable or DSL ???

Which one do you guys have ?I got ATT Bradband and it sucks once I was without service for 2weeks.Sometimes I have to unplug my modem then plug back to work.
I've got a good deal from Verizon,I just don't know how good that will be against cable.

Help me please

I've got Comcast High-Speed Internet. 1.5MB/s download and slow as hell upload. It's been rock solid 99% of the time. It'll run ya about $45/month. Worth the cash IMO.

Zoner 01-14-2003 11:45 AM

I've had both (Rogers Cable & Bell Sympatico High Speed) and I haven't noticed much difference in either.

With both, I ping around 50-60 on MOH servers.

If it's available in your area, get Speakeasy.net aDSL.

They offer different speed packages. For example, their 1.5mb/768kb package. That's enough bandwidth to host a small web server and still ping nice and low in games =P

Innoxx 01-14-2003 01:13 PM

I got the Shaw@home total home package. Got cable for the internet and over 200 channels in digital cable, only $88cdn a month. biggrin:

ATT

I have it and it works great for me! My pings range from 18-60 and hardly any downtime problems.

Had Dsl (Verizon) ...too slow and would make my Sony Phone go nuts even with the filters, and not to mention the lag spikes I would get. Its also more expensive. If you wanna upgrade to the same speed as Cable...add something like 15 bucks and thats if you qualify for an upgrade.

cameltoe 01-14-2003 04:24 PM

DSL from sbc

Isabella 01-14-2003 05:26 PM

Charter pipeline. Has been down 4 times in last year, but good otherwise.

Slinky2397 01-14-2003 05:59 PM

MSN DSL...Horrible. Goes down at least 5 times a week, DL of 25 kb/sec, $40 My parents are wasting a whole lotta money on it...And we have a contract that lasts until March..Wonder what I should ask for getting...I was gonna say AT&T but it sounds bad from what you people have said.

When i joined the internet in the 90's, i had 56k. It was painfully slow but i was able to play online games with a ping of 150 - 200. I tried to get DSL but was too far away from the CO, so i had to wait for cable to come to my area. Here are some speed results that i got from DSLreports.com

2003-01-14 20:58:42 EST: 1242 / 910
Your download speed : 1242857 bps, or 1242 kbps.
A 151.7 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 910470 bps, or 910 kbps.
Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!

These results are good but can be much faster with a properly matched modem & router and with some tweaking.

....broadband, there is no substitute !!

Akuma 01-15-2003 06:52 AM

Star85 01-15-2003 07:08 AM

Comcast Cable

SoLiDUS 01-15-2003 07:49 AM

I have Videotron cable internet.

DSL has a theoretical (and practical) limit of 150 kilobytes per second:
cable can go up to four times that limit. Digital Subscriber Line providers
want you to think that getting cable will not be advantageous to you
because others will "share" your connection, which is true, but will not affect
yours at all. I can't speak for everyone else, but my cable connection has
NEVER let me down... more than once (a 3 hour downtime) in 2 years so far.

Timdog 01-16-2003 10:18 PM

Although this thread maybe old if you want to host above 6 people and got a few extra dollars get comcast cable PRO if you can get it in your area. It costs 95$ a month and its got a 3.5 mbs download and a 384kbs upload. I have hosted 12-14 people with this and it has run pretty well.

Simo Häyhä 01-16-2003 10:55 PM

i got road runner cable, i get around 100 ping normally oOo:

Pyro 01-16-2003 11:04 PM

I use rogers high speed cable, and I get pings of 20-50 usually.
