I'm afraid it's just a fact of life as far as the whole FPS scene is concerned. Youngsters go for shooters, the older players go for air-combat sims.
Another fact of life...youngsters are, by definition, immature. That's what leads to all the hacking and cheating we see in most popular FPS's. I was just thinking the same thing. The trick is, I guess, to try to ignore the amazingly ignorant and offensive conversation that goes on as people wait to respawn. But it is very hard to ignore.
In the last week or so this has degenerated so much it is shameful. When you have one kid calling another "Nig..." or "Jew" or "Fag" it is bad enough, but when the majority of the players are participating it is really a drag. These kids are ignorant, small minded, racist and homophobic, and proud of it. |
I'm sure if we put our minds to it we can accumulate a list of adult and honest gamers for this FPS. We may end up short on clans, but at least we'll be able to enjoy sensible games.

The game will have mature adults, who will be outnumbered by the multitudes of silly kids. It will be a pain, but you have to deal with it everywhere these days, online.

well I suggest that the Moderators here construct a kind of 3 strikes program.All these kids who call names like stated above.All kids who constantly talk about,and design "warez".All kids that promote cheating as a HABIT(not as casual useage in single-player)i.e.:Showing others how to do the grenade trick....

I think the greater problem is on the game servers.
But hey, it could be useful. Anyone who calls somebody else "gay" or uses other foul-mouthed abuse, you know it's got to be a brat. Take his name and pass it around to every adult who runs a server. It is your predictability that is annoying. Constantly calling anyone and everyone fag, using racist comments, or talking about how anti-Semitic you are, is 90% of the time, a 11 or 12 year old kid, with no life.
Cussing is not a big deal to me, if it is used sparingly. I say,"Oh shit", or,"Damn, I fucked up on that run." That's no big deal. However, if you are just cussing over and over, constantly, in every sentence, and screaming in caps, that's annoying, childish, and doesn't belong online. I don't know if others have my sentiments, but I can only take so much. If your an adult...you just act a certain way. I'm with Wolfshook. Kids are the ones with the truly foul mouths, and kids are the ones using the hacks.
I have no problem with profanity either, but I do like to see it used 'well'...to empower a sentence, or express a feeling more forcefully. But to see it used as 'just another word' is tiresome, not least because it's being done by some brat who thinks everyone is impressed. As for the cheats...yes, of course there are adults who cheat. But I'd qualify that by saying the ratio between brats and adults cheating must be around 1000/1. Bratz hackz, bratz warez. shit devil mouse, only way u can get any bit good at MOHAA is from a game like CS, and u dont know shit bout cs players, i skool in mohaa because of cs, my opinion the newbs are peeps like u who havent played cs cause u get knocked in like 2 seconds one game i killed 160 guys with 60 deaths in less then an hour, with like 12 players, newbs are the peeps sayin shit like i played moh for PS so ill be good, the game is totally different

Not neccessarily Trix, though it does help. The problem with CS is that it's too deathmatch for MoH:AA's environments, every server I go on, I see people strafing and jumping circling each other with rifles. Snipers running and blasting people 1 m away, bazookas and panzerschreks people blasting people away in tight corridors. There is not enough of the flanking, covering fire, advancing, teamplay strategies that can make a multiplayer game great. 14 years old, never played CS h8 it, kinda got bored of DoD because of all the noumerous TK/camp/other assholes who screw the game up.
I never played a spray and prey game, always tactical shooters where you gotta use some brains. I am no "CS Kiddie" I am a kid who enjoys FPS shooters. Remember that most of the CS cheaters are adults, small kids don't even posses the knowledge to make cheats for CS, or even use them cause none of them is really easy to use. Just play the game, and if you don't like the community leave it for what it is. CS assholes can't spoil MOH:AA Single player for ya, now can they? Not all kids are the same. I'm 12 (13 in feb) and i hate cheats, and when i see people throwing insults at each other while waiting to respawn i just ignore it. If sombody keeps on TKing i just leave, i dont spam things like "GO SUCK YOUR MAMA'S ****" like somebody was yesterday.

I seriously enjoyed reading this topic and its replies. It's so funny to see posts from a 12 year old next to posts from a mature adult. It's constantly alternating between well-written English and the alien language that teenagers tend to write in, which doesn't contain capital letters, commas, quotation marks, or any short word which can be more easily expressed with a number and a letter or two. And they so consistently spew out the same ideas. You can tell what they're going to say by how the first sentence is written.

The problem isn't kids per se.
The problem is rude, racist, homophobic people. Having said that, it is clear that most of the time - not all - these ugly statement are from kids. But if a kid acts decently I am sure that everyone posting here would be happy to play with him. Finally what ever happened to positive comments like: "good shot"? |

I never have seen so much kids playing sutch a game. I remember a thread on the offical ofp (operation flashpoint) forum. The question was how old u are. I was by far the youngest (14). The rest where mostely 20+. (I've read that the average gamer is 28(!)).
I've been watching this forum since yesterday and already have seen 5 kids younger than 12! If this goes on, mp is gonne be full of cheaters like cs. *sigh* |

Its not the age that controls whether they are cheats or not, its the type of people they are that determines if they are cheats or not! People who are 30+ can cheat just as much as people 12-. Yeah, WWII flight sims... I remember about 6 years ago (I'm 16 now), I was hooked on this Dynamix-made flight sim called Aces of the Pacific. Played it till my joystick broke. I bought IL-2 a few days ago, but I had to return it since my really-low-end system (P2 333, 128MB RAM, useless) couldn't run it. Oh well.

Colt, I really do respect your decision not to play a game with "camping", however I must try to explain this to you.
There is no such thing as "camping" in a realistic game. As a game moves away from Quake, and towards the more realistic games, such as Ghost Recon, OPF, and to a slightly lesser extent MOH and DOD, you get realistic combat situations. In these games, bullets are usually one shot one kill, as they are in real life. Those who wish to truly play these games, and act out modern (or WW2) military tactics, defend a strategic objective, so as to not allow the enemy to gain a foothold on their territory. Setting up a line of defense is very hard to do, and requires patience, skill, and teamwork. Those defending a line against the enemy must be crack shots, so as to deny the enemy the ability to return fire, or to even deny the enemy the ability to understand where the fire is coming from. Patience is needed to wait on the enemy to return, and not get up and blow your cover. You must lie still, to deny the enemy the ability to locate your person, and nail your brain pan with a small piece of steel. Teamwork is essential to this working, as it is the only way that you can push back flank attacks against your weakest defensive positions. Multiple people defending a wide territory, are brutal against the enemy, when they have skill, patience, and teamwork going. This is what Germany did so successfully in WW2, defending it's territory against massive odds. This is what alot of us like to try to do in realistic games. It's not camping, it testing out tried and true military tactics. And, it works...especially against mad kids screaming about camping. Wolfshook, as you describe camping it isn't. However with camping I mean abusing the map bugs, lying in spots where you can shoot from but others can't shoot you because there is some invisible wall or something, I should have explained what I meant more clear.
