Euthenasia... For or Against?
That topic about that poor Car Crash victim got me thinking...
Would you support a system which, when the victim of a horrific injury/disease/etc, pleads for doctors to terminate their life that it should be legally acceptable? It is not legal here in Australia, Doctors/Family Members can be put in jail for doing what the person wanted. I wholeheartedly condone Euthenasia... What d'you guys think of this issue ? |
I am absolutely for euthanasia: a person's life is his own to keep or take.
No one else (perhaps exceptions related to age and status can exist) has a right to decide whether that person should continue living or should die. |
Yeah, I'm for it. If I ever get into really bad state I wouldn't what anybody to pull my plug, but for some people it's nice to have that option.
What doesn't kill you will make you stronger. |
I'm wholeheartedly for it.
If someone is in so much pain that they want to end their lives, who the hell are a heap of faceless governmental people who have no knowledge of the situation to disallow it? |
This is one of those situations that it depends on the person, I cant really say.
|
Hmmmm, ok Von, you support "YouthinAsia" but you dont support the Death Penalty.....Please elaborate ?
I'm neither for it or against it. People who are tuly sick, in constant pain, and have no hope of living with current medicines....perhaps. But as Star85 said, it really does depend on the person....either way, I cant really say. |
Oh, like Jack Kavorkian? Nah, I don't think that flys off well. Shouldn't be legal. Even though the paitent is the one who is agreeing to it, I don't believe it should be legal. Maybe how it is now, hidden behind a curtian, yes.
|
Depends on who they are doing it to. I am all for it for someone like mpowell. Putting him out of my misery would be a good thing. I guess you need to evaluate on a case by case basis.

I dont think doctors should be able to do it for their patients, I'm not trying to sound cold-hearted, but the Doctors creed is that they can heal and save people, but they cannot help people die.
|
im for it

What if you can't heal or save that person, and all you are doing is prolonging is this persons agony. |
"I don't care for them they're conformist and they're communist"
"what are you talking about Mr. President" "the youth, in asia" sorry, "That's My Bush" just sprang up in my mind. |
Exactly. Cruel and unusual punishment...
BW, a contradiction does not necessarily exist when a person is against the death penalty (the act of killing a person for a crime they've commited) but pro-euthanasia: this stems from the fact that each one of us should have a choice to end our lives without the consent of another (some exceptions can be jotted down) whereas the death penalty takes away that person's life and requires no consent. You might say that, for example, the murderer did not give his victim a choice but this does not invalidate the idea because of the fact that even though there are apparent similarities in between the two you must remember that euthanasia is NOT synonymous with murder: you have a choice. The murderer might have killed a person and yet have a strong will to live, no ? Why, exactly, should he be put to death when rehabilitation is a viable alternative to a euthanasia operation with an unwilling patient ? Just a thought. |

What if you can't heal or save that person, and all you are doing is prolonging is this persons agony.[/quote:a403b] I was looking at it from the standpoint of the hypocratic oath that doctors take, nothing more. Perhaps hospitals should have one or two people whos job is just helping people who truly do not want to live anymore (this does not include people who are not seriously ill, and just want to die) I could see that working. I'm not really sure where I stand on this though, theres really no black and white clear answer. |
I shouldn't have to ask for permission to kill myself.

You yourself dont have to, Euthenasia is assisted suicide. |
