Sgt>Stackem 01-30-2003 03:37 PM

I wish the US would pull out of it.

1000 Staples 01-30-2003 03:54 PM

If we was to pull out, that would be the end of the UN. I say "let's do it".

1000 Staples 01-30-2003 04:21 PM

If you vote no please explain why. I want to see other people's opinions.

01-30-2003 04:24 PM

Any organisation is useless when only one or two of it's members can undermine it totally hake:

ninty 01-30-2003 08:52 PM

No, I don't think so. At least not yet. They need some major changes. They need to beable to make decisions and beable to ACT based on those decisions if this means military power.

If they have no way to enforce anything...what good are they?

They do bring a lot of humanitarian aid to a lot of countries. Most of you think if militaristic terms. That is only one part of the UN. The UN is supposed to provide stability. They do this to an extent, but without all the parts, it will be hard to enforce their rules.

Bazooka_Joe 01-30-2003 09:08 PM

I'm skeptal. I don't care who sucks and who dosen't. Maybe if I was in the Army I would agree with you guys.

JowShmoe 01-30-2003 09:15 PM

no, because they are still powerful, and the U.N. is a place where all member nations can come and meet, and if a country has the backing of the U.N., they pretty much have the backing the the world. I think it is losing its power, because of Bush. but i support Bush, and i really could care less what the world thinks.

Zap. USMC 01-30-2003 09:27 PM

-EXCUSE THAT LAST POINT I MADE-

I TOTALLY agree with pulling out of the UN, perhaps the US biased people out there would open there eyes when half the ruled goes to war because we're not there to enfore peace.

Vance 01-30-2003 09:29 PM

Ok I want to know why the League of Nations wasnt sucsessful (Im not debating, I really want to know)

Zap. USMC 01-30-2003 09:41 PM

Can you honestly say you'd prefer Lieberman?

catnip 01-31-2003 10:29 PM

I don't know who I would want until the next election comes. One day I'd like to see a black woman run.

Eight Ace 01-31-2003 11:29 PM

...the UN sets its agenda and sticks to the rules...unfortunately, the people they go up against don't play by the rules,
and the UN forces have no spontaneity to counter that without more meetings, vetoes etc.

...also, this sort of thing doesn,t help,

Iraq to chair U.N. disarmament conference
From Richard Roth
CNN New York Bureau
Wednesday, January 29, 2003 Posted: 6:49 AM EST (1149 GMT)

UNITED NATIONS (CNN) -- Iraq will chair the United Nations' most important disarmament negotiating forum during the
panel's May session. At the rules-minded United Nations, it's not a country's status with international weapons
inspectors, but the letters in its name that determine which member state chairs the Conference on Disarmament.

"The irony is overwhelming," a U.S. diplomat said. eek:

SW-14 01-31-2003 11:41 PM

I wouldn't worry about that, chances are Iraq will be disarmed by then. biggrin:
