Victory is a word not strong enough to describe such a battle.

I plan on going there someday.

Eight Ace 02-03-2003 03:44 AM

Read "Stalingrad" by Anthony Beevor...or, alternatively, don't.

imported_Fluffy_Bunny 02-03-2003 04:06 AM

I brought it last week.

Stalingrad....The battle that would change the course of history. I salute for those Russians and Germans who lost their lives there.

Bazooka_Joe 02-03-2003 05:33 PM

Wow, 60 yrs huh? Long time since that battle. Well, if anyones from Russia here, go and pay respects man.

Id like to think so, they lost in the region of what 20 million people. ed: The closest number to that is germany with around 4 and a half million dead. ed:

Innoxx 02-04-2003 11:46 AM

More like 30 million.

You know, I never really realized what the conditions of the war were until I watched Enemy At The Gates. The first 20 minutes said it all, man.

Enemy at the Gates, is an awsome movie. I say to all those people who havn't seen it, GO OUT AND RENT IT, or better yet, buy it.

I also plan on going to a bunch of WWII Battle scences and such. Doubt I ever will see them all. But I promised myself that I would go at least into Europe!

Old Reliable 02-04-2003 03:09 PM

i have been to the Moscow Victory Park, it is huge and thousands of people still visit it, kind of like the Wall in DC but everytown has a memorial of some sort.....

imported_Fluffy_Bunny 02-04-2003 03:10 PM

Enemy at the Gates is one of my favourite war movies, I downloaded it a few weeks ago.
Strange that they all had brit accents, I would have preferred a cheap russian one. But then I spose its better than having em w/ hollywood ones..

Vassili Zaitsev is one bad mofo.

Old Reliable 02-04-2003 03:12 PM

enemy at the gates sucks watch Stalingrad

Shroom 02-04-2003 06:18 PM

My Great Grandfather I am told fought there and I am not Russian so you can presume which side he was on. Only 16 I am told just my Father won't give me the letters that he wrote back to my Great Grandmother. I have seen a picture of him in a German Uniform and my dad says I look almost like him. Of course he is MIA but we can presume he is KIA now.

Stalingrad was one hell of a battle no matter what side you see it from...I salute all those who died there.

Wait....If he was 16 when he left for war, and then was MIA, how do you exist? He must'ove been a father at like 15!

I'm confused.
