Half-Life or Wolfenstein
 

Hey, i could use some advice here. After reading posts on here i've become interested in the Day of Defeat mod for Half-life. I'm thinking about goin out and picking up the Platinum 2 edition. It has five games in it for a good price. But i'm also interested in Return to Castle Wolfenstein too (which is no longer coming out for XBOX). I'm wondering which one has the best mods, multiplayer, weapons and such. Or should i just say fuck it and get em both? Thanks!

Never played either game, but from what I've read, people are really going for the DoD mod for Half Life. I've heard some really negative things about the RtCW community...that alone will deter me from ever buying that one.

I'd go with Half-Life. The graphics are prolly a little dinkier, but the gameplay is supposed to be great and addictive.


Zone

Used to play RTCW, but the arcade like atmosphere and never ending parade of teamkilling drove me away, then again same can be said for MOH.

don't forget the ever-infestation of teammates who defuse your dynamite to place their own so they get the points. half life for sure

Never played RTCW muilti but the Single player game is fun in its own right, As long as you dont mind killing zombies. Graphics are great. Halflife/Counterstrike muilti is great, but is rampant with Cheaters. Don't know much about the DOD mod though, sounds pretty good though.

Right now I'm waiting for my C&C generals that I preordered, should be fun to do this game online. I'm a big fine of the RTS games, In fact I still play the old Harpoon (Great Naval RTS game, kind of dated though) and AOEII.

I like HL simply for the laser-guided rockets. I can have alot of fun with those. RTCW is cool for the rocket too, but the flamethrower is more fun.

As for multi, I think if the speed was knocked down a tad in RTCW, it would be excellent.

i would go with RTCW i think its better than half life.

The single player in RtCW is worhty, but the MP sucks. As far as DOD or Half life/Counter stike goes, I prefer my games to be made in this century. Come ask me about MOH is three years and I will probably give you the same answer.

HL was my first PC game and I was hooked after that. Although I have never found a SP game that had me on the edge of my seat like HL did.

I'd get Half Life! I have both but that's cause I stole RTCW from a kid and bought a HL game. The HL game was like 20 bucks. Cheap.

Why would you buy anything but the FIRST Half Life, when you can DOWNLOAD every mod for it?

the Counter-Strike retail allows you to get every mod too

The RTCW enemy territory got cancelled because the single player campaign wasn't far enough in development. The are going to just be focusing on the multiplayer aspect now and release Enemy Territory as a huge patch for RTCW. So if you buy Wolf you get a huge expansion for free in a few months. If you are going to play DOD buy a retail copy of Half Life and not CS retail. CS is a free DL... and with HL platinum pack you get Blueshift and other versions of HL.

If you have HL download the FireArms mod from http://www.firearmsmod.com it pwns CS 1.5 imo

Strikor does DoD have punkbuster? If so does it work, or is there still alot of lamers abusing it?

Day of Defeat has its cheaters, but they are not tolerated at all. Normally in most servers i play in they are banned within a week. I would have to say DoD is one of the very few clean games i know of.

The new DoD 4.0 is will have more anticheats. HL guard is the standard now. Some servers in DoD 3.1 when you join ask if it's ok for the server to scan your HD for cheats. Just add those servers to the fav. list.

I play alot of the FireArms mod to ,the FA servers use a program called "Cheating Death" http://www.unitedadmins.com/cdeath

Aren't you glad FREE mods have better cheat protection then EA games? Fuck EA in the neck. I'll never buy another EA game till they patch them more. They don't give a shit about the gamers; just selling units.

You should buy one of the coolest games ever made. UNREAL TOURNAMENT. That game has the best mp ive ever seen plus sp is just as good. Unreal Tournamet 2003 Comes out soon or its already out. Im not sure but definately worth your money

Yeah i know they are older games...but reading about Day of Defeat i got interested in the class system. I like the idea of having an actual roll on a team like a .30 gunner etc. I'd probably have more fun just providing covering fire with the 30 or the BAR, than just running around getting my ass shot off! Plus i think there is a Vietman mod out there i'd like to check out too.

If you want Realism go to Day of Defeat, its free to download and play for Half Life. Return to Castle Wolf is like many say arcadish.

Day of Defeat you can swim, go in prone, actually hide, and more.

I own both, dont play either anymore.

Just my 2 cents worth.

If its between Half Life and RtCW, get Half Life. Simply put: HL is the best FPS ever, and there are a ton of mods out there that sustain it as a worthwhile investment (even tho the graphics are passe). But RtCW was fun as well, so if you can find the old box (not the GOTY one) for $10 (like I did) its worth it.
