HELLBEAST4 02-17-2003 10:21 AM

what model?

buy some ramsinks and a top quality hsf and overclock to ti4600 specs.

Sniper Wolf [USAR] 02-17-2003 10:25 AM

I said what model lol.

pest 02-17-2003 10:32 AM

I think he meant who makes the card you are getting.

You can get the memory clock up to near 4600 specs, but the core clock speeds are not obtainable. And all that is assuming that the 4600 is not oc'd and you cant get the really good oc figures on the 128mb card. But I am sure you knew that already.

Its a good card. What are you upgrading from?

[LoNe R@nGeR] 02-17-2003 10:34 AM

I have that card, but I still get bad fps for some reason. I am thinking maybe I didn't delete all the older drivers, maybe that would slow it down, also, i need some sort of overclocking tool, anyone know where i can get one?

Sniper Wolf [USAR] 02-17-2003 10:39 AM

My current system specs.

Pent 3 933Mhz, 512mb RAM, 40gb HD, ATI Radeon 7000 64mb, Windows XP PRO.

I am getting the Nvidia GeForce 4 Ti4200 128mb. From a ATI Radeon 7000 64mb lol that card is a god.

MPowell1944 02-17-2003 11:07 AM

I have that same card you are getting. Just make sure to install the drivers correctly and everything should be good to go. With every setting maxed out in the game I average from a lowest FPS of 23 (crossroads) to a highest of 210 (Algiers) . My comp specs are alittle higher than yours but you should be in a similar range as I am.

Acctually as of late the 128MB chips are almost no better than some models of the 64MB chips. But of course bigger is better and that will sell, who the hell cares about preformance?

Depending on the game you are are playing, the 64mb card often out performs the 128mb card. The ram used on the 64mb cards is better. The 128 cards do perform better when the volumn of the load increases, but most games on the market today do not have that type of load. The 128 cards will probably have better longevity with the newer games.

HELLBEAST4 02-17-2003 11:23 AM

I should have said ti4400 specs, since that's pretty much what my friend is up to.. 275mhz core/525mhz mem

Btw, you're not going to get the best out of these cards till you get a DDR system. Although, going from that ATI 7000 to a ti4200 is more than just a marginal upgrade :)

Bazooka_Joe 02-17-2003 11:27 AM

What BRAND though??? lol

Visiontek? PNY? Asus? MSI? LeadTek?

That's gettin the bang for your buck :)

My friend has crap ram I think, it's a VisionTek, but it locks up if he goes higher than 530mhz :\

hehe.. maybe he's getting it from Nvidia themselves:)

pest 02-17-2003 12:21 PM

All the 128 cards are like that. The ram just isnt as good, but they are still good cards. Mine is an eVGA, btw.

MPowell1944 02-17-2003 01:02 PM

Regarding BRAND. Mine is a ChainTech. Got it for $177.

What is your cpu?

HELLBEAST4 02-17-2003 02:13 PM

BIG FAN of eVGA. Just wish I had known about them before I purchased my VisionTek ti4400.

In response to LoNe R@nGeR, as far as I 'remember' the new drivers give you the ability to overclock right from the Display Properties.

Although, I'm not sure, since I use and been using PowerStrip since forever now. Great little utility for perfecting your display settings.

Cool Fool 02-17-2003 08:05 PM

THIS WEEKEND, I'M GETTING MY GEFORCE 4 TI4600

Pyro 02-17-2003 11:11 PM

good pick

Xorcist [USA] 02-18-2003 06:17 AM

its probobly too late because it is monday morning, but they have one on pricewatch.com for $108.00. that would have saved u $60.00.

pest 02-18-2003 07:15 AM

And $138 for the evga at newgg.com, it will be at your door in 3 days. Less if you dont live on the opposite side of the country like me. Pricewatch is cool, but I would almost never use the lowest price. Newegg is worth the premium.

HELLBEAST4 02-18-2003 07:54 AM

Yeah, if he was going to buy it off the internet !

LOL

He's going to BESTBUY. Apprarently ;\

makaveli1604 02-18-2003 10:11 AM

yup mines is a chaintech too cost me £140 quid
an suggestions on the max o/clocking off this card????

Argon 02-18-2003 10:14 AM

I have the PNY Ge4 Ti4400 and I love it. Its never given me a problem, even at max settings. I love it.

I have heard that the Radeon 9700 pro is pretty much the same, but I haven't seen the difference.

Take it as far as it will go. Just take small steps, bump it up a little at a time. I would expect numbers similar to the other numbers posted by the 128 card. It will not match the numbers of the 64 mb card. I would bump it up and then run 3Dmark 2001. I would always get artifacts appearing on the screen in dragothic first, so you can run that one alone if you are trying to save time, I like to track the increases, but Im a geek.

I dont think you can kill a video card by OCing, they are pretty idiot proof and anyone can do it, but I would still only take it up a couple notches at a time. On the other hand, I would not recommend cpu overclocking to anyone that cant afford to replace major components, or at least know exactly what they are doing.

Sniper Wolf [USAR] 02-18-2003 01:57 PM

lol Sorry but its THIS FRIDAY COMING UP LOL.

Yes im going to best buy this is the one im getting.

http://www.bestbuy.com/detail.asp?e=111 ... 1&scat=522
