Second Thoughts about Spearhead.
 
OK. I admit that I talk alot of crap about the expansion, and I haven't even played it in months. But for some reason, I decided to hop in a game today just for the hell of it, and I don't know what it was, but I was having a blast. Some of the player death animations were bizarre, but for the most part, everything was fine. I used to hate the change in graphics and how everything looked, but with maxed settings, its really a +change.

I am so used to playing AA, that playing SH with all the new guns, it actually made it worth the money (yes, i said it).

Now that I have had a 2nd chance with SH, I think my mind is changed about it. It really is a good expansion. Just takes some time away from it to realize it.

I have always liked Sh even with some of the werid stuff such as butt skids etc.

Some of the new weapons are alot of fun (and yes I use the noob stick alot ed: ) and i really like that russain rifle.

I dont play it much anymore since ICB dropped its SH server due to cost and lack of clan intrest.

I have trouble finding a decent server that gives me under a 100 ping.

I also wondered why some of these new weapon and maps cant be added to AA.

The reason the maps can't be added to AA, is b/c they used the new version of q3map to compile them, which codes the .bsp differently and AA can't recognize it.

Regarding the new guns, I think they did an exceptional job. A few animation and sound glitches, but no big deal. I find the Russian and UK rifles to be best.

Regarding connection and FPS. Since I have a fast line anyways, I have been pinging 40 - 70 on every server I join. When SH first came out, my FPS was just plain retarded. Even with the same card I have now, I had crappy FPS ranging from 15 on Stadt to 45 Vershneit, but every since that patch came around, its as good or right under the FPS I get in AA. Getting FPS in the range of 30 to 150 all the time with max settings.

Actually, by playing AAN realism, you never see butt sliding since you're dead before you get a chance to slide.

What about the glitch when someone dies and they try to respawn, their body twitches around. I am seeing that alot now.

Yeah man, that's why I like realism; 1 shot 1 kill. (almost all the time)

OK another glitch thats kind of annoying. When I eject a shell with the Springfield, more than 1 shell comes out. After I flip the bar down to fire again, it twitches and like 10 shells come shooting out. Is it an error in the .tiki or what? Can't be a mod b/c I'm running SH stock.

it happens, ea simply doesn't know what the word "beta testing" means

i'm sure it will be fixed in the pacific expansion, or rather shoot twice and eject once

I get that too...I thought it was a corrupted skin or sound mod. Also, the Granategewehr loading sound plays twice, which is great when you are trying to be stealthy.

Hopefully the new patch will be out before 2004.

If EA releases a patch that dosent fix every single problem with SH, then what else is left for it? I mean, how can a company be so FUBAR that even after 2 patches, there are still major problems.

Spearhead is much better than the original.

Nades require more skill to use effectively, the sound is MUCH better (sound positioning), lighting (engine) is improved, graphics improved, knowing where your teammates are (with the compass) is a great addition, color coding (team) deaths (text) is great, smoke is a good addition, call vote, and a few good new maps.

I can't go back to the regular AA, it pales in comparision.

nades are harder to use? how so? you simply hold it down long enough then throw it in their face. at least in mohaa you had to TRY to time the explosions meaning the guy was long gone by then.

Why? Because (a) you can't run around the map with a "live" nade, (b) the distance thrown is a lot more realistic, no more hucking one the length of a football field or more (c) not being able to open doors with a "live" nade requires teamwork and/or good timing, (d) timing is even more important now... wait to long and tick, tick, tick, you're dead.

"Harder to use" isn't the best way to phrase it I guess, "more realistic" is better (other than not being able open a door with one hand and a nade in the other) :)

Funny thing is when I paly on my lan I dont get that with the springfeild.

i only realy dont like he fact that you can't open doors with a nade pin pulled, i'm sorry but a nade only takes 1 hand to hold.

lol... i think every every one blew up the first time playing moh:sh cuz of that.

anyone else find that they have had a drop in fps in sh form there fps in aa?
