War films - what do you like?
Any fans of Cross Of Iron out there?
Steiner |
full metal jacket
perfect mixture of comedy and action without some stupid love story unless you count 8-ball trying to get the hooker to take him |
I think most war movies are over-rated, spr being a perfect example. Not to mention that it protrayed the germans as mindless drones who like nothing better in life than walking into a very obvious line of sight of a .30 cal browning machine gun. oOo:
I enjoyed the longest day though. |
this is what the 20th favorite war movie thread?
anyways The Longest Day and Bridge Too Far |
The only things I didn't like about the Longest Day were John Wayne being carted around with a busted ankle and Robert Mitchum waltzing up and down Ohama Beach with no weapon. He had a leather jacket with a fur collar on, a cigar hanging out of his mouth and was taking absolutely NO fire from the Germans. It was just too stupid to even think about.
A Bridge Too Far was a masterpiece. Zone |
Erm, Omaha...

I thought Saving Ryan's private's was pretty good. I also love the dirty dozen. Nothing like telly savales (sp?)

Well any world war two movie made by americans always protrays everyone wrong for example: The americans are always protrayed as brave, noble and honorable The British are always protrayed as not having much involvement in the war and the germans and Japness are protrayed as mindless and heartless drones |
i prefer Enemy at the Gates because i jsut love to snipe

I forgot to mention Kelly's Heroes and Where Eagles Dare
you thought Clint Eastwood could kill a lot of people with a six-shooter, but then they gave him a Tommy Gun biggrin: fire1: |
Cross of Iron was fubar, I'm still having nightmares about that german getting a B.J and that Russian B** biting down. I cried at that part ed: ed: ed: ed: ed: ed: ed: ed: ed: ed: ed: ed: ed: ed: ed:

In no particular order,
A Bridge Too Far Stalingrad Saving Private Ryan Das Boot Bridge Over River Kwai The Cruel Sea Band of Brothers and theres a load more but I can't be bothered to include them. Someone should make a film of the war in Burma, dramatic backdrops w/ Indian temples etc. That would rock |
I forgot to mention Kelly's Heroes and Where Eagles Dare
Ooh I forgot about Kelly's hero's. That was a classic!!!!! |

the WERE mindless drones |
nah man, I disagree with that america always shows it is the best. In BoB, they had a lot of times where americans shot unarmed germans. And they showed how the Germans were real people too. They had the British engineers. It is not that the US shows that other countries are inferior, yjr movies are just aobut US troops, it is kind of hard to randomly throw in a scene or two ith other nations troops if they weren't in the story. Even in SPR it had steamboat willie. I did agree it was kind of silly how german after german were running into the 30 cal, but I just think that they might be confused when all the fire went down and didn't know where to run. I know that happens to me a lot in BF1942.
