war movie errors quiz

OK you know how this goes, the winner gets to post the next question, etc.

First let's start with subtle errors in movies (ie not major plot elements or tactics goofs)

Question number one: what in Kelly's Heroes can possibly not be as it was portrayed, due to simple mechanics. (hint: it has to do with tanks)

03-03-2003 10:56 AM

need another hint?

it also has to do with music.

tanks and music.

03-03-2003 11:29 AM

umm, never saw the movie.. is the tank playing music?

another guess, The tank and the music wern't around in WW2?

redhawk_six 03-03-2003 11:32 AM

The tank had a speaker on it, playing music I believe. eek:

If I'm remembering the right movie... eek:

03-03-2003 11:39 AM

Thats sorta what I said.

03-03-2003 01:36 PM

good start redhawk, now what was the only way (well one of the only ways) to play recorded music in 1944, and why would that not work.

Zoner 03-03-2003 01:52 PM

I'm assuming the record would skip if played in a tank. COrrect?

you win, actually it would probably bounce enough to destroy the record or the needle thing that reads it. Especially when you drive down railroad tracks biggrin:

Your turn

Ok, here's one : What's the most noticable error when Jackson snipes, in Saving Private Ryan?

[quote="Airborne Butters":c3bca]Ok, here's one : What's the most noticable error when Jackson snipes, in Saving Private Ryan?[/quote:c3bca]

in the final battle he fires like 8 or 9 rounds from a Springfield '03 which holds a 5 round clip, and does so without reloading.

Airborne Butters 03-03-2003 02:09 PM

You are correct sir! I also would have accepted that when they were in the French town, whose name escapes me right now, when they were giving covering fire, Jackson was shot the first time and you could hear the firing noise but when he cocked it back it got stuck and was figiting with it while you heard it shoot again.

Zoner 03-03-2003 02:18 PM

Ok, this one has to do with Mark Hamill in "The Big Red One".

Toward the end of the film, Mark stumbles across a german soldier who would've killed him if his gun didn't jam. There's is a BIG goof with this scene once Mark starts shooting his M1 at the hapless German. What is it?

I was going to say when he was in Vierville, he says "2 clicks left" obviously talking about windage, but he adjusts the focus on the front. Also, he was using a Unertl scope which was issued only to Marines, Army snipers used the Remington scope.

No one?

Bazooka_Joe 03-03-2003 03:07 PM

Never saw it, but I'll guess:

Does it have to do with something like his gun wasn't loaded or the gerand clip already popped?

Zoner 03-03-2003 03:17 PM

Sorta close...but not quite.

Jedi Marksman 03-04-2003 07:26 AM

Was the bolt open? I never saw that one either, so I'm just guessing.

Zoner 03-04-2003 08:28 AM

Well, I'll let you off the hook.

Mark fires 13 rounds from his M1 into a german soldier...that's 13 rounds in a ROW.

Now, anyone who isn't an MG whore in MoH (heh heh) would know that the M1 holds 8 rounds and once the 8th round is fired, the empty clip is ejected with the characteristic *PING*.

In that movie, there was no *PING*s whatsoever.

The point of that was the bolt was on the right hand side of the gun, if he went left handed, he would have to work the bolt backhanded, which would take longer, plus in the army then, they only trained you to shoot right, but you could use your left hand for the bolt.
