Ok FX or 9700
Welp, since Nvidia has fucked me over with the fx saying that theres not enough chips, and that ill have to wait probly a month, i was wondering if maybe the 9700 was a better choice than FX since both are same price and everything.
And I run everything on 1024x 768 if that makes a differnce. Thanks |
Neither. Go with VooDoo 3
|
lmao! nono, seriously
|
Well im sure this will influence your decision...I had just bought a Radeon 9700 Pro and when i put it in, it sucked major ass and got around 17 fps all the way up to 500 just when it was a black screen. but usually it would be at 50-60. Then i was like wtf and returned it, and bought another one by a different company. The same thing happened with that card. Two 9700's that sucked shit. Now i am waiting for the FX to come out sometime before March 10th. I am pretty dam sure this card will show a dramitic increase in performace and quality. I hope this helped.

9700 PRO.
For the price difference, the Geforce FX is only slightly (minimally) better. |
benchmarks show the 9700 Pro is absurdly better for its price. Reich I dunno what the hell is wrong with yours, maybe your comp can't deal with such 1337ness. biggrin:
|
My friend has a 3.06HT P4 cpu, 512 megs of Rambus ram, a radeon 9700
pro and the other goodies... and boy, let me tell you: Splinter Cell runs at 1600*1200 with all details on as smooth as airborne butter. The card rocks. |
Sounds good, Splinter Cell runs fairly well with everything on high at 800x600. It gets choppy at some points. Considering I have a 1.2 GHZ Athlon and a GeForce 4 TI4200 with 64 megs, I think that is aaaiiight.
|
i have a 9700 pro, and i am happy
if i was you i would forget about the FX and i would buy the 9700 pro |
I have a 9500 pro that i picked up very cheap and the lil' sucker rocks!! The 9700 pro is that much better so if the $$$ situation isn't a problem, go with the 9700 Pro. Just make sure you have a good strong power supply (most peeps neglect in this area).
|
Make sure you have DDR ram and at least 1.6GHZ of cpu power: otherwise,
your entire system will be the bottleneck. In other words, you will NOT be able to fully appreciate your 9700PRO with the tit machine you have! biggrin: |

|
actually when i went to bestbuy the 9700 and FX 5800ultra was the same price... so...
|
i donno the FX has some new things incorporated into it, but its really bulky and expensive, and requires a vacume of a fan on it so its up to you to choose, 9700 is getting kinda old now tho and ATI is working on a new one thats supposed to beat the FX horribly
|
oh and the reich, where in nevada do you live? i live in las vegas
|
9700pro. I wouldnt get the fx for the noise alone. They are very, very loud and the performance is only marginally better.
Best buy had a $100 rebate on the 9700 pro too, but that was off their insane retail price of $400. Look at newegg.com for the best prices from a quality site. |
well they SAID that the prototype was louder, and that the final would be less noisy.... but ill believe it when i see it...
|
If you can get a good deal on the FX, go for it. otherwise, 9700 is the way to go.
|
i would disagree, because pcworld.com said that ati is coming out with graphics cards that will blow away the FX

o yeah do u have AIM? and one more thing about the 9700, can someone please list their settings and their computer hadware if u have the 9700 because i would like to know wtf was wrong with mine. was it cuz i only had 4x AGP (KT333 from soyo...ulta dragon platnium edition)? i really want to know y i did so shitty with an awesome card. well i am buyin the fx when it comes out to see how well it does. if it sucks ima take it back just use my 4600 until a newer card comes out.
|
4x is fine, in fact ive seen some tests that show 4x is better than 8x
|
then wtf =|? lol
|
IF you look at the benchmarks at tomshardware i think it is you will see the FX on AMD puts the 9700 into the dirt
|
reich, i have aim, usually not on it but... ill pm you it
i live in northwest las vegas near best in the west shopping center, kinda near cimmaron. |
I have now totally changed my opinion on the GF FX. My friend did a benchmark test with it last night, and found out that the only thing the FX beat the RADEON in was the 3DMark2003. In Quake 3, Jedi Outcast, Serious Sam, and Adobe Illustrator, the RADEON 9700 Pro preformed faster.
Go with the RADEON (I can't believe Im supporting ATI) cry: |
i ve always had ati cards.

ok u guys, i just found this. read it and tell me what you think...
http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/200 ... ro-02.html and keep going onto the next pages cuz it has some pretty tight tests. and yes the 9800 is out and should be available to public soon...but i think im going with the FX after i read these tests...give em a look |
i thought the 9800 was gunna "blow the fx out of the water"
but looking at that it doesnt look like it really does... |
