Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar
I gotta a couple of things to say about these:
1- Technically speaking, spelling, punctuation and grammar are not a direct indication of intellegence. 2 - Poor use of the above, makes posts difficult to read, blurs the intent of the post and invites flaming. 3 - While not truly an indication of intellegnce, there is only so much information with which you can form an opinion of other members. If you are too lazy to write in complete, understandable sentences, dont blame others when they are too lazy to try to decipher what you wrote. 4 - If I cant decipehr what you are babbling about after the first sentence, I quit reading. 5 - In high school, or college as some of you claim, you are marked off for poor spelling and such. No, thats not a true gauge of intellegence either, but it how you are graded. Guess what? Life works the same way. 6 - Flaming a non-native english speaker for any of the above is ghey. If you must flame them, do it in their native language. For me it is a matter of self respect. I would not put my name on anything that sounds like it was written by an angry 6 yr old with a broken shift key and no spell check. Writing gibberish and then proclaiming your intellegence is like telling everyone that your rusted out pinto can take a corvette off the line, but saying you cant be bothered to show us. |
Is this in reference to anything in particular, or just how you feel about reading posts or anything?

Just a recurring theme here and on other forums. |
lol this is great, even though I understand what you are saying on many levels you must remember this is a forums board. You are bound to get a lot of weird people posting here. If you can't read it, simply do a little "lol" to yourself inside your head and move on. There is no need to flame, no need to mock, just don't borther with the BS like this.
Great post though. Shit like this makes my day. |

Intellegence? Intellegnce? If I would post a message like yours, I would have made sure that it was correct. Without any errors, either spelling or typing errors. Quote:
And I agree with HaVoc... |
Im not flaming. No names, no finger pointing. I think both sides are silly. If your writing is at the fifth grade level, dont get mad when someone points it out. But then again, the "your writing sucks" comeback is about as original as "your momma!".

I totally agree with what you are trying to say.
BTW: You mispelled a word in #3 and have an incomplete sentence in #5. cheers |

As for people like Praetorian, who probably uses babelfish to post, I feel a noose around my throat when I read his posts. oOo: |

He makes a good point. Everyday posts from people like us, whom posted here, are bound to run into grammar mistakes, but none that are non-readable or anything like that. As for people like Praetorian, who probably uses babelfish to post, I feel a noose around my throat when I read his posts. oOo:[/quote:3ad18] Its not the everyday mistakes. Its not mispellings, or missed commas, or should I use a : or a ;. Its the ones like you speak of that I am referring to. Many times I am too lazy to use a '. Its the guys that are too lazy to use capital letters or periods. Or that have more than 50% misspelled words. Its the sloppiness that bother me, not the mistakes. |

Actually, I kind of agree on some points you're trying to make by starting this thread. I also understand what you mean, that it is not all about errors, but also about sloppiness; just thinking: They'll understand what I mean and post some incoherent story. Ah well, it's not like we're writing the new bible here, and as far as incomprehensible stories go; there's always the 'back' button. |

I guess I should restate what I said. Maybe when I find the edit button. As long as its coherent, I am generally fine. There is a big difference between informal and sloppy. |

I usually try to check my posts for those things before submitting. <Jimbo Jones quote>Makes me feel like a big man.</Jimbo Jones quote> biggrin: Zone |
Well, here's my .02
I can understand a mistake here and there but when i see stupid obvious errors, i think the guy's an uneducated ass. If you want to sound smart, at least check what you're writing before clicking the "submit" button. Typos and some misspellings are ok but some stuff is just too much. And another thing...i don't mind shortcuts but some of the language is getting hard for me to understand. It took me awhile to understand what l33t was but to be honest, i can't keep up. Heck, it must be a "kid" thing. Anyway, i didn't "proof-read" this so have at it and pick it to death!! I'm sure there's an error somewhere! Have fun. |
