GED?
So I basically fucked up alot of my highschool career with excessive absences and whatnot. My guidance counsler told me of a program where I come to school two periods a day and take a practice GED test, then go take a real GED test. Seems kinda the best thing to do in my situtation
My question is: How bad will having a GED affect me in the long run? Will most jobs or colleges accept it? I asked around and most said yes... |
yes it is considered like a high school diploma but to a lesser amount, it will get the job done and it is much better than not completing high school. that's as much as I know
|
My old room mate took a ged and passed and the guy is dumb. so you should have no problem passing.
|
You implying that I'm stupid? cry:
Anywho; it seems like it's too good to be true! I only come to school 1st and 2nd period then get to go home. In this class all I have to do is take some computer courses and listen to music if I want |

You can still get into college with it, most employers will accept it and the military will as well. |
just dont expect to get into Yale or Duke freak:
|
Yeah as Chris Rock said, "GED stands for Good Enough Diploma".
|
You slacker, get a real diploma.
|

Come on just get the real thing. GED may get you into a city college but good luck getting into a University. It also depends what you want to do college or work it all depends.

He did. biggrin: |
GEDs arent always bad. To get into college, you also need to have SAT or ACT scores. Extraordinary act/sat scores can make up for lack of a normal diploma.

a GED will get you into a job at 7-11 or McDonalds. Hey, at least at 7-11 you get free slurpees. just watch out for the brainfreeze and dont use the greasetray as your ashtray!

Let's not forget the opprotunity to getting shot for minimum wage. |
I'm not really interested in going to college, maybe a local vocational school for computer stuff. I took the practice GED and it didn't seem too hard. I'd say my weakest area is mathematics.

Somebody been gearing you up for your future? |
it's your own fault. don't complain.

in other words you're ranked 300 of your class which has 310 students? |

College is not for everyone. With so many specialized fields(especially in high tech), schools like ITT and DeVry are more appealing to some. Good that you realized it was not for you rather than come to that conclusion after you have spent thousands of dollars. I'm almost done at the UofA, thank God. |

almost 99% of computer stuff requires math so ur pretty much screwed if you want a job in high tech |

The Airfroce will not accept GED's and if i recall the Navy will not either. When i enlisted the Army was considering making a diploma required. I dont think it will. |
heh that would eliminate alot of the new recruits
|
I was thinking of somthing more along the lines of computer repair, building and maybe routing. I know my life won't be super fancy. I really just want something simple.
|
if thats your thing than go for it man, i guess you kinda gave up on the whole shoot for the moon deal
|
I used to somewhat belive in that shit, but since I've been in HS it died. Alot of the teachers here are depressing and bring everyone down. They give you more the grim reality. MY first day of freshman year, we were all gathered in the auditorium. Our princpal gets up on the stage and begins his speech by: "Look to you left and right. Odds are that person will either be a failuare or will accomplsih very little in there life..."
I'm not saying it's the teacher's fault. Alot of them are good, but alot are also very negative and depressing lives and it reflects onto us, the students. |

Don't limit yourself. You can become wealthy at anything if you know how to tap the market. Service occupations like what you're considering are a very fertile market. You'd be surprised how many corporations would rather hire someone to network and repair their systems on an as needed basis than have a full-time network administrator. |

'Course, everyone knows it's B.S.....But I'm still aiming high.... |
im shooting for the middle, i know there are very few that get a lot done and all that requires alot of hard work, im not really feeling the whole hard work thing. im trying to find the best low work/ nice pay ratio job and doing that. i was thinking something with comps but thats going down the drain with the slumping economy so im kinda lost
|
What exactly is a GED anyways? oOo:
|
|
Don't go for your GED Butters, I'm being serious here.
What year are you in High school?? Junior, Senior?? If so, stick with it. That's the problem with todays kids, fucking dropping out and won't stick with anything, that's why they're tweaking allot of special forces training. No offense to you or anything, Butters. Get your diploma, it'll be worth it. |
