Russia will not intervene militarily, Putin would not be that stupid. He would not support a war against Iraq, but he would authorize military action AGAINST the U.S.? I think not. The U.N. would not stand for that either. If this story is indeed true, these people are mercenaries, nothing more.

So a few thousand "troops" want to fight, let them. They will not have tanks, ammo will be slim, and the over all organization, or lack of, the Iraqi military means they will be of little conciquence. If they wish to die or surrender for a country that is led by a moron let it be so.

Both Afghanistan (1980s) and 'Nam were guerilla wars, not very indicative of the then conventional armies the US and USSR had.
(note that Northern Alliance destroyed most of teh Taliban before we got troops there in strength in 2001, no one knows more about guerilla warfare than another guerilla biggrin: )

The Russian Navy, Army, and whatever the hell else those wife beaters have are junk. They start outlandish wars with Ex- Soviet Union Republics to try and show they're better, but they end up making the wars last longer than percieved and the casualties just pile up, just to try and show the world that Russia is still powerful. They're junk, they didn't use to be, they had a good run there for about 50 years. Russia's Armed Forces = Outdated Weapons,Young Soldiers,NCO to Grunt rating is like 1 to 100000,Jelous of NATO.
