A not so simple answer to a simple question.
 

A while ago an american asked me "why do europeans hate us so much?".
as i replied "we don't hate you....we just don't like what your govorment is doing all over the world" .
this simpel answer spurred up a lively discussion that didn't lead anywhere.
now.....i'm gonna take it up here :)
and also answer with a few facts of what the world sees in american foreign poilitics.
now keep in mind....this is about one tenth of what the US govorment has done to the world in the past 50 years. (and these are all facts so if any smartass asks "show me some evidence" then just watch the flick Bowling For Columbine and you'll get your hard cold facts there, i took it off there just for that reason)

1953: US overthrows Priminister Mossadeq Of Iran.
US installs Shan as dictator.
1954: US overthrows democratically elected President Arbenz of Guatamala - 200,000 civilians killed.

1963: US backs assasination of South Vietnamese President Diem.

1963-75: American Military kills 4 million people in Southeast Asia.

1973 Sep 11th : US stages a coup in Chile. Democratically elected President Slavador Allende assasinated. Dictator Augusto Pinochet installed. 5000 Chilieans murderd.

1977: US backs military rulers of El Salvador. 70,000 Salvadoreans And 4 American nuns killed.

1980: US trains Osama Bin Laden and fellow terrorists to kill Soviets. CIA gives them 3 Billion American Dollars.

1982: US provides billions in aid to Saddam hussein for weapons to kill Iranians.

1990: Iraq invades kuwait with weapons from US.

1991: US enters Iraq, Bush reinstates Dictator of Kuwait.

1998: Clinton bombs "weapons factory" in Sudan. Factory turns out to be making Aspirin.

1991 to 2002: American Planes bomb Iraq on a weekly basis. UN estimates 500,000 Iraqi children die from bombings and sanctions.

2000 to 2001: US gives Taliban Ruled Afghanistan 245 Million American Dollars in "aid".

2001 sep. 11th : Osama Bin Laden uses his expert CIA training to murder 3000 people.

now with this in mind you really can't deny why the rest of the world sees americans as dumb barbarians killing everything for their own profit?
these are all FACTS. And i've seen some dumbass rasist comments in here and generally on american websites .
I haven't even mentioned the 56 days of bombing over Serbia......the US bombed the shit out of Serbia and then who had to build it up again? Europe...that's who and we figure we'll get stuck with the bill after the US is finished with Iraq.
Don't get me wrong......I don't hate AMERICANS but what i do hate is the US GOVORMENT and it's two-faced crap.

The ones i feel sorry for are all the victims of war/terrorism and how people can take advantage of it so easily and make it to something it's not.

Actually companies that sold the Ameircan Flags after 9/11 did just that and gave part or all of profits to the victims families.

They were Atomic Bombs. Nuclear Bombs would've done alot more damage.

and there were Military Targets in the cities, so don't make the distiction that they were civilian only cities and there were 560,000 casulities(combined from both cities) from the Atomic Bombs, infact there was a allied conventional bombing that killed more in Germany (just one city from one attack)

The Japanese were not going to surrender without a full land invasion (resulting in more civilian deaths as well as more deaths to Allied and Japanese Soldiers) or with the Atomic Bombs to hopefully persuade them into surrendering. What would you do if you were in our position.

it is true, The US has done those things, but a lot of the overthrowing of leaders and attacking people was a choice of who's bad and who's worse.

yes, we overthrew an elected official, but saddam was "elected" also. We have also installed dictators, but they were better than the alternative. This was evident in Iran. Carter threw out the dictator there and installed a Prime Minister, thinking it would be more democratic, but in fact, the new leader spurred Iran to capture all those hostages for something like 455 days.

Also, in many of these countries, terrible, terrible things were happening, like in Somalia where the people were starving. WE needed to get the clans and warlords out of there to help the people of Somalia. Similar things happened in many of the other conflicts you listed.

Another thing to blame is our containment policy regarding communism. We have had some major conflicts caused only by communism and trying to stop it's spread, maybe if we just let the communists live their own way, they would just fall apart on their own, without us having to intervene.

You have to remember that with politics of foreign policy, many choices are between who's bad and who's worse.

Now it was either that or invade mainland Japan, which would cause upwards of 100,000 allied deaths and over 250,000 Japanese deaths, military and civil. Also, Truman knew that if an invasion started, the 100,000 allied POW's being held captive in Japan would be SLAUGHTERED by the Japanese. Now:

the bombs that were droped were wrong but you do have to look at the alternitive to it we have resently found out that japan had a secrit air forse of jets and bomber that are almost equal to todays jet power and that they had all new wepons like primitve sidewinder missles and it is thught by the Us war experts that if it had been a land invasion that first wave of ships would all have been sunck befor they ever got there

I find such blindly one-sided statements extremely inflammatory, especially since they are so hypocritical in nature, considering France, for example, sold Iraq enough weapons-grade Uranium to make three nuclear bombs. Every nation's government has done bad things.

You show me a respectable thread, and I'll show you a respectful debate. Why would I attempt to debate respectfully with a 16 year old who gets facts from biased films.

let me ask you this.......where do you originate from? hell no, not from the US, you're roots lay in eiher Europe, Asia or Africa. Thing is........i see americans as europeans that got twisted by a greedy and Nationalistic govorment.

Are u kidding me? No country has done more damage to itself and other countries then the US. Read a fucking book. Countries such as England, Germany, Russia, Spain, etc. have not only practiced imperialism but have destroyed entire civilizations, cultures, and caused havoc on several races. Yes i understand that US foreign policy is not great., but dont give me that shit that were the rich and arrogant americans who force our beliefs and politics on other countries because there have been countries that have been doing it alot longer then us. Because the US is one of the most powerful countries in the world, it is obligated to act in defense of countries that it has interest in. Every world power has done it and are still doing it. The US is far from perfect but u would be lying if u told me that u thought no other country has commited the same atrocities america has.

By YOU, do you mean the US? Because we weren't on a "high horse" nothing was done to us so why would we want to fight in the war, just as France is saying right now to us? The only reason it took a long time is because that's how long it took for us to become threatened
